Listen to English research papers on your Mac without any ads or subscriptions. PDF Listener is a Mac app that reads English research papers and PDFs aloud. I built it because staying focused on a long paper isn't always easy, and I wanted a way to listen while following the text. No account is required. Speech models are included with the app, so you can read and listen without an internet connection. Your documents stay on your Mac Text extraction and speech generation run locally. PDF Listener does not send your PDFs, extracted text, or generated audio to an external server. Features • Click a sentence to start listening from that point. • Follow the text as each sentence is read aloud. • Choose a voice and adjust playback speed. • Skip common citations, figure and table captions, and other non-body text in papers. • Choose whether to read text in parentheses while keeping it visible. • Switch between English and Korean interface text and light, dark, or system appearance. Requirements Speech is in English. Text extraction works best with PDFs that contain selectable text. Requires an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 26 or later.
