New in 1.3.0:
• Your picture in focus: in the timer, choose the reading network that grows with you, or the painted attic nook where a cat reads along – fitting every design. Bookyo now shows you new features with a short introduction.
• “My shelf” widget: your books as spines on the Home Screen.
• Plan reading time: set on the dial how long you want to read. The clock counts down, also on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, and Bookyo lets you know when you’ve made it. In focus, the screen stays on.

New in 1.2.0:
• Comments on posts: tap the speech bubble to write a comment or reply with @name. Comments can be reported, you can delete your own – and you can turn them off on your posts.
• Challenges with “Starts on”: set the start up to 90 days ahead. People can join before then; counting begins on the first day.
• Challenges with a picture: choose from 24 drawn designs and swap it later with “Change picture”.
• In the challenge chat, you can report other people’s messages.
• E-books: change title and author with the pencil in the list or by tapping the title in the reader – the file itself stays unchanged. E-books show tidier titles by default, and with four or more e-books you can search and sort.
• Reading timer without opening the app: the “Reading timer” control starts or pauses the timer for your current book – in Control Center from iOS 18, on Apple Watch from watchOS 26. From iOS 18, you also see a running timer on your Apple Watch.
• Time read without a connection is now reliably added later.
• Drawn placeholder covers are laid out more neatly.
• Small improvements and fixes.
1.2.0 Oct 27
New in 1.1.0:
• Leaderboards: if you’re not taking part yet, you can see in advance how you’d appear on the list – for the month and for “All time”. Now and then, a card in the app invites you; you can turn this off at any time under Reminders.
• More movement on the leaderboard: a ring that shows how close the next place is, the final stretch in the last days of the month, numbers that count up, rows that glide into place and a welcome when you join.
• Both leaderboards can now also be turned on or off in Settings → Profile.
• If a cover loads slowly, a drawn cover in color appears right away – the real image then fades in gently.
• Notifications arrive with text again: new followers, hearts, messages and reminders.
• Small improvements and fixes.
1.1.0 Oct 21

• The reading timer runs more smoothly: rings fill up visibly, nothing jumps, and after saving you see right away what you achieved.

1.0.8 Oct 19
New in 1.0.7:
• Your reading reminder speaks to you: with your goal and your own reasons for reading.

1.0.7 Oct 18
New in 1.0.6:
• Your e-books in the cloud: under E-books → Storage location, connect iCloud, Dropbox, OneDrive or Google Drive – your e-books, your place with highlights and notes, and your own cover photos are on all your devices. iCloud needs no sign-in on iPhone; with the others, Bookyo only uses its own folder. Books stay right on your iPhone; anything you haven’t opened for 30 days lives in the cloud alone and comes back by itself when you open it.
• Reading reminder at the time you choose – right from the first question about notifications, and changeable any time.
• Links to clubs and challenges now open the app directly.
• Chat: the time now sits neatly next to the text in every language.
• Small improvements and fixes.
1.0.6 Oct 16
New in 1.0.5:
• A new app icon – and eight more in the colours of the designs (Settings → Appearance & language → App icon).
• “Reading today” widget: Bookyo shows you how to put it on your Home Screen.
• E-books now sit with the book: “Read as e-book” opens the file on the page your book is on. Plus the new “Digital” shelf in your library.
• What you highlight in an e-book appears among the book’s quotes by itself (can be switched off). In PDFs you can now highlight across a page break.
• Recommend a book: sharing sends a link with cover and title.
• Titles with an entrance: tap a title on a profile. “Currently reading” shows the full book title.
• Two new designs (“Midnight” and “Paper”) – all nine can be chosen right at sign-up.
• “Attach a book” lists all your books.
• Optional reader survey: 18 questions without your name, coins for every answer.
1.0.5 Oct 14
New: read e-books – open EPUB and PDF files, highlight passages, add notes, set bookmarks, search the book, turn page by page and adapt the page to the light (light, sepia, night, high contrast for sunlight). When the file belongs to a book in your library – Bookyo links it by itself – you start the timer in the reader: only what you really read counts, and the e-book shows as a bookmark how far you already are in the book. If you like, your position, highlights and notes follow you to your other devices, and the files live in a folder of your choice, for example in iCloud Drive. Plus: design and share quotes and achievements as cards. Reading without a connection counts in full and is credited later. A ticked-off reading routine counts as reading, with its duration. Your progress in book clubs and readalongs follows what you read. A notification tells you when someone overtakes you in the rankings. A finished book appears in the feed by itself (you can untick it), and quotes can be shown in the feed. New in the reader: “page 55” takes you to page 55 – Bookyo uses the page numbers in the file, or you match the spot with one tap; plus “Go to page …”, “Back to the previous place”, time left in the chapter, notes as pop-ups and images in large. What you read in the e-book moves your book’s page along by itself. At the bottom of a book you now see your reading history: reading days, time and pages, your way through the book and every session. With a folder as storage location, your own cover photos are kept there too. The E-books page shows at the top where to continue reading; the reader names the chapter you are in, and pages turn with a soft transition (can be switched off). Notifications: if turning them on fails, Bookyo tries several times and then tells you why. Also new: your profile has a new layout – picture and numbers at the top, everything else in the menu. On other people’s shelves you can like a book, ask about it or add it to your own. You design avatars with large previews and suggestions. The leaderboards show who moved up and who moved down. News from Bookyo appears as a story. What others see of you is listed during setup on first launch – and you can switch each item off.
1.0.4 Oct 13
New: the feed comes alive – every book colours its post, and “Want to read” puts it on your wishlist with a note. New members are welcomed; newly founded clubs and challenges appear in the feed and on the home screen. Chat gets stickers, and you can edit your own messages for 15 minutes. Inviting friends now also works as an image for your story. Reading routines are in the plus menu – with examples to tap. Profiles show the person’s posts, and a tap on the member count shows who is in a club. Share clubs and challenges through your device’s share menu. After finishing a book, pick as many words as you like. When a book is almost done, the next volume is already waiting. Also new: edit book details – title, author, page count, ISBN and more can be changed at any time, even while you are reading. Profile pictures in a chibi style with big eyes, and the full range of design options is there right from the start. Stories get 21 hand-drawn stickers. In book clubs you can see who is taking part. Find contacts – see who from your address book also reads on Bookyo and follow them with one tap. Your address book stays on your device; only people who switched it on can be found. Book clubs and challenges are created in a new flow: private (invite friends with one tap) or public so others can find them. Every name is unique, and whoever founded a club can delete it again. Fixed: adding a book by hand now always works – even when the ISBN field holds a number that is not an ISBN. Book search looks wider and in more library catalogues. Large text no longer breaks buttons and titles apart. Also: reading routines, story drafts and a private story archive, a simple mode, a contact form and a page with the open-source licences. Signing in by phone number has been removed.
1.0.3 Oct 11
New: “Suggested for you” – find people with contacts in common or a similar taste in books. Quotes can be edited and deleted, and “Text from photo” lets you photograph a page, mark the passage and insert it. Plus, once a day, a hint about features you have not tried yet.
1.0.2 Oct 9
Deleting your account is much faster now and shows “Deleting your account …” right away. New in Settings: “Rate Bookyo”.
1.0.1 Oct 8
New in 1.6.0:

• Clearer wording and small improvements.
