Mac
New: Anime super resolution. Upscale DVD-quality anime with crisp lines. Also plays in Picture in Picture, switches MKV audio and subtitles, and applies your own LUTs.
Look back on your videos one day at a time. Sparklux Library lists the videos on your Mac, external drives and network shares exactly where they are, and organizes them with tags, favorites and ratings. It is designed for libraries of around 100,000 videos.
Try every feature free for 3 days. If you like it, buy it once. There is no subscription.
Sparklux, by the same developer, is a player that opens one video at a time in HDR. Sparklux Library is for organizing and finding many videos where they already live. Playback uses the same engine as Sparklux and shows SDR videos in HDR.
■ Two ways to view
- Grid: evenly sized thumbnails, dense enough to browse and pick quickly, with the date and place under each name
- Album: one chapter per day you filmed, with that day’s top-rated video shown large and eight more beside it. Busier days open into a grid of just that day with one click
- Both sit in a calm deep-blue window where only playback and your selection glow in soft amber. Each library remembers its view
■ What it does
- Add a folder and its videos appear. Video files are never moved or rewritten
- Tags (nest them like “Family/Kids”), favorites and star ratings
- Filter by tags, resolution, HDR and length, and save filters you use often as “shelves”
- Tags stay with a video even after you move it to another folder
- AI tagging: tag five videos by hand and the app uses them as examples to tag similar videos
- AI-made tags: “Date taken” and “Place” tags from the date and location recorded in the video. Place names are looked up on this Mac with a list built into the app
- With an optional on-device image model, judge tags by their names alone and get scene words suggested as new tags
- Rules that tag videos whose file names contain given text
- Separate libraries, and password-encrypted libraries
- iCloud keeps tags, favorites and playback positions in sync across your Macs with the same Apple ID
- Resume playback and watched marks
- Picture in Picture: play in a small window that floats above your other windows, still converted to HDR
- MKV audio and subtitles: switch between the audio tracks inside MKV files (for example Japanese and English) and show text subtitles (SRT, ASS)
- LUTs: load .cube LUTs into My LUTs and apply them to the video as it plays. While a LUT is applied, it replaces the SDR-to-HDR conversion
- Anime super resolution and Anime (light): choose them in the player’s upscaling menu to upscale anime from DVD quality up to 1080p with a trained model that redraws the lines (the model is included in the app and runs only on this Mac). Anime (light) is a lighter option. Both work only when you choose them and are remembered per video
■ Privacy
Tags are never written to your video files or to Finder tags. There is no developer server, and your videos, tags and file names are never sent anywhere. AI judging runs only on this Mac. What goes to iCloud is encrypted on your Mac first.
■ Please note
- HDR display needs an HDR-capable display. On SDR displays videos play normally
- Judging tags by name and suggesting scene words need the image model download (about 3.1 GB). Tagging from examples and date/place tags work without it
- Supported formats: MP4, MOV, M4V and MKV
- Opening videos from a URL is not supported
■ Price
The app is free to download and includes a 3-day free trial. After that, a single one-time in-app purchase unlocks it on all your Macs with the same Apple ID. There is no subscription. When the trial ends, browsing, tagging and searching keep working; playback, “Open in Another App” and “Show in Finder” stop until you purchase.
Ratings & Reviews
- This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.
• Anime super resolution: a new option in the player’s upscaling menu. It upscales anime from DVD quality up to 1080p with a trained model that redraws the lines. The model is included in the app and runs only on this Mac, which it measures to pick the quality it can keep up with
• Anime (light): a lighter option that also works for 10-bit and HDR anime
• Both work only when you choose them and are remembered per video (other videos keep the upscaling you used before)
