RecOn: Screen & Audio Recorder

Screen, mic and system audio

Only for Mac

Free

Mac

Of all the apps I've built, this is the one I use most, and I want you to have it free. Record your voice and screen right from the menu bar. No time limit, no ads. Screen, voice and system audio, recorded together. RecOn lives in the menu bar: press ⏺, decide how system audio and the mic are recorded, start. The audio routing is immediate, system audio and mic have separate gain, and there's a limiter so you can turn it up without clipping. RECORD • Four modes: full screen, region (drag to select, move the frame, resize by the corners), window (click the window to record), audio only (mic → WAV or M4A) • Countdown: none / 3 s / 5 s. Region capture always counts down • Pause and resume. Nothing is written while paused; resume and it continues in the same file • HEVC video, AAC 48 kHz audio. The file is written every 5 seconds, so a crash keeps what was recorded AUDIO • System audio captured directly — no virtual audio device, no switching the output device • Pick the mic input and watch the VU meter. Gain ×1 to ×16 with a brickwall limiter at -1 dBFS • The ⏺ in the menu bar blinks whenever audio is coming in, so you never record silence by accident • System audio and mic are merged into one stereo track, so your voice survives on video sites that only use the first track SHOW • Click effects: a click sound and a red ripple where you click, in both the audio and the picture • Camera overlay: put your camera on screen. Drag to move, drag the edge to resize, zoom into part of the camera picture FILES • You choose the save folder (asked the first time you record, changeable any time). Files are named by date and time • Panel colors: seven color schemes, or follow the Mac • 9 languages: English, 日本語, 简体中文, 繁體中文, 한국어, Español, Français, Deutsch, Português Requires macOS 15 or later. Screen Recording, Microphone and (for the overlay) Camera permissions are requested the first time.
