Padiush Companion

Ethnobotany in the field

Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.

Record interviews and plants in the field, even with no signal. Audio, photographs and coordinates are kept encrypted on the phone and sent once you are back online. Padiush Companion is the field app for the Padiush platform, built for teams documenting traditional knowledge about plants. Record interviews and plants wherever you are, even with no coverage or data connection. Everything is saved encrypted on the phone and sent once you are back in range. YOU NEED A PADIUSH ACCOUNT This app accompanies the web platform at padiushbio.com. To use it you need an account and access to a project. Interview forms are designed on the web and answered here. BUILT FOR FIELDWORK • Works offline. The interview does not wait for a signal. • Record audio while you fill in the form, or before you start it. Recording carries on when the screen locks or the phone goes in a pocket. • Attach photographs of the plant, the preparation or the place. • Keep the coordinates of the site whenever the phone can get them. • Record each plant you observe or collect, with photographs, a voice note, its location and the collecting permit. When the interviewee names a plant, you can record it without leaving the interview. • Each answer is saved as you write it, so closing the app loses nothing. • In Spanish, English and Portuguese. THREE TABS Interviews, to start an interview in a project or pick up the ones on the phone. Records, for your field records. To send, with everything the server does not have yet and a single button to send it. LOOKS AFTER WHAT YOU WERE TOLD • Data on the phone is encrypted with SQLCipher, using a key generated on the device itself. • Unencrypted originals are deleted as soon as they are stored encrypted. • Content is removed from the phone once the server confirms it arrived. • Your password is never kept on the device. SENDING THAT DOES NOT LOSE WORK Interviews and records are sent when there is a connection. If the server refuses an answer, because the question was deleted on the web for instance, the app lets you know and you can correct it, discard it or try again. If the connection drops while a long recording is being sent, sending carries on where it left off. WHAT HAPPENS ON THE WEB Form design, species linking, ethnobotanical indices and exports are on the web platform. This app is for capturing in the field. PERMISSIONS • Microphone: to record interviews and voice notes. • Location: to keep where each interview or record was made. • Camera and photos: to attach images. Padiush is free software, licensed under the AGPL. padiushbio.com
