Time in the Market
What waiting to invest costs
Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Put in an amount, drag the year you bought, and watch what a few years of waiting really cost. Real market history, your numbers, no accounts, no ads.
Most people who don't invest aren't reckless. They're waiting for a good moment.
Time in the Market shows you what that waiting costs, using real market history and your own numbers.
Put in an amount. Drag the year you bought. Watch the number move. A few years earlier isn't slightly more money, it's dramatically more. That's the whole argument, and you can check it yourself instead of taking anyone's word for it.
START WITH THE WHOLE MARKET
The app opens on the S&P 500, because owning every large American company at once is the sound default. Then add companies you believe in and see how they actually compared: same money, same window, the index still on the chart beside them. Sometimes conviction wins by a mile. Sometimes a household name you were sure about trails a plain index fund for twenty years. Both answers are in here.
SEE IT BOTH WAYS
Hold your picks together as one bucket and watch how the winners quietly grow into most of it. Or compare them separately, side by side, each against the index over the identical window.
ALSO INSIDE
• Real total-return data: dividends reinvested, splits applied
• 440+ companies, funds and indexes, back as far as 1970
• Pick your buy date and your sell date, or never sell at all
• Why holding longer than a year is taxed more kindly
• Compare against the S&P 500, Nasdaq-100, Russell 2000 and Dow
HONEST BY CONSTRUCTION
No accounts. No ads. No brokerage links or referral fees. The moment an app profits from pushing you somewhere, its credibility is gone.
What you explore stays on your phone. The app reports crashes and counts which screens get used, but never the amounts, dates or companies you choose.
This is history, not a forecast, and nothing here is investment or tax advice. The app also tells you what it CAN'T show: companies that went bankrupt are absent from the data, so any set of stocks you pick is a set of survivors. That's exactly why the whole-market index is the fair yardstick.
