Incubator: Your Language Wiki

Wikipedia in your language

Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.

Read and write the wiki of your language on Wikimedia Incubator. Translate a sentence, add a source, invite other speakers and watch the wiki move toward graduation. Help your language get its own Wikipedia. Hundreds of languages are writing their first Wikipedia, Wiktionary or Wikivoyage on Wikimedia Incubator. A wiki leaves Incubator and gets a site of its own once enough people write in it. Incubator, the app, helps you become one of them and contribute to Wikipedia in your language, even if you have never edited a wiki before. Why it matters - Knowledge in your mother tongue: an encyclopedia written by and for the speakers of your language. - Minority, indigenous and endangered languages stay in daily use when there is something to read in them. - Every sentence you add brings your wiki closer to graduating from Incubator. Read, no account needed - Find the wiki of your language among every open wiki on Incubator, with its recent activity. - Choose the project (Wikipedia, Wiktionary, Wikiquote, Wikibooks, Wikinews or Wikivoyage) from a list instead of typing a code. - Search the wiki, see what changed recently or open a random page. - Read pages in a clean reader: footnotes open over the page, there is a table of contents and an adjustable text size, and the same subject can be read in other languages. Contribute in a few minutes - Sign in with your Wikimedia account. Sign-in happens on Wikimedia's own page, so the app never sees your password. - Translate the opening sentence of an essential article your wiki does not have yet. - Link words to other pages of the wiki by tapping them. - Add a source from a web page or a book. For a web page, the app looks up the title, author and date for you. - Back up pages that already exist with sources. - The app writes the page the way your wiki expects, following its folders, its heading for references and its infobox, so you never see markup. Grow the community - See what your wiki still needs to graduate: active contributors, edits and the translation of the interface. - Invite other speakers with one link or a QR code; the link opens the wiki right in the app. - Optional reminders help you keep a monthly goal. Open, and respectful of your privacy - Everything you publish goes to Wikimedia Incubator under your user name, like any edit made on the website, and is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0. - The app has no server of its own, no analytics and no advertising. - It is free software under the MIT licence; the source is at gitlab.wikimedia.org/h2o/incubator-mobile. Incubator is a volunteer project in the spirit of the Wikimedia Language Diversity Hub. It is not an official app of the Wikimedia Foundation.

Runs on iPad, and fits any window on a Mac: screens keep to a readable column, and Explore shows the list and the page side by side. Sign in with a different account, without the one your browser is signed in to. The home screen says why something could not load.
