Pastethread makes ⌘V paste the right thing in every app: a file path for your terminal and AI coding agents, the real image or file everywhere else. Every copy is also kept in a history sorted by type, ready to find again.
WHY
Some terminals can't paste an image at all, and AI coding agents only need its file path. Code editors and agentic development environments often attach the image when a path is all you want. Notes and chat apps should still get the picture. Pastethread gives each app the right one — you keep pressing ⌘V as always.
⌘V THAT ADAPTS TO EACH APP
• Paste Rules per app and per file type: images, videos, other files, or your own groups of extensions.
• Original — paste the image or file exactly as copied.
• Original + path — keep the original and add the file path as text. Made for terminals, including ones that can't paste images.
• Path only — paste just the path, for coding tools that would otherwise attach the file.
• Write paths plain, shell-escaped, or quoted.
• Screenshots get a path too: Pastethread saves them as local PNG files.
• A first-run guide finds your terminals and coding tools and sets them up. Change any app's rule from the menu bar, the History window, or Settings — it applies even to what you just copied.
YOUR COPY HISTORY, SORTED BY TYPE
• Text, images, and files in one history, filtered with one click.
• Previews for images, image files, and the first frame of videos.
• Open it anywhere with ⌥⌘F: type, pick, press Return. The paste rule for the app you came from is applied.
• Pin, rename, group into boards, and save filtered views.
• Keep up to 10,000 items or 1 GB, with automatic cleanup after 7, 30, or 90 days — or never.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
• Everything stays on your Mac: no account, no cloud, no analytics, no tracking.
• Content that apps mark as concealed, such as passwords, is skipped. Exclude any app and pause capture anytime.
• Optional on-device text recognition makes text in images searchable. Off by default.
GOOD TO KNOW
• Pastethread never presses or intercepts ⌘V and needs no Accessibility permission. When a rule applies, it reshapes the clipboard for the app in front; apps without a rule get the original back.
• Screenshot files are kept in Pastethread's app container. The first time a terminal or agent opens one, macOS may ask whether to allow access to data from other apps.
• History and exports are stored locally and are not encrypted.
