Your thumb already knows how to scroll. Give it Scripture. Prayer Lock asks for three verses before Instagram or TikTok opens. Free, offline, no account.

Your thumb already knows how to scroll. Altar gives it something better to scroll through.
SCROLL SCRIPTURE, NOT SOCIAL
Swipe through the Bible the way you'd swipe through a feed. Each card is a verse or short passage, matched to what you told us you need (anxiety, hope, rest, courage, grief and more) on a calm, moving background, with a prayer or reflection prompt every few cards. Double-tap to say Amen. Save the ones that land. Tap "read in context" to open the full chapter.
HOW ARE YOU FEELING?
Anxious, tired, grieving, thankful: choose how you feel and get three verses for right now, with a 30-second breath prayer. It all works offline.
PRAY FIRST
Prayer Lock uses Apple's Screen Time to show a "Pray first" screen on the apps that pull you in. Shield as many apps as you like, free. Read three verses and they open for a while, up to 5 times a day; after that, a 5-minute emergency unlock is there once an hour, and you can switch Prayer Lock off in Altar at any time. While an app is unlocked, a Live Activity on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island counts down the minutes left. Altar+ adds more schedules, other unlock rules and Hard Block: a window, such as bedtime, when the shield offers no unlock at all.
KEEP THE FLAME LIT
Set a daily goal and build a streak, and share a card when you reach 7, 30 or 100 days. Advent and Lent challenges walk you through the season one reading at a time. "40 Days Off Doomscrolling" starts any day you like.
VERSE WALLPAPERS
Turn any verse into a Lock Screen wallpaper in one tap, laid out to sit clear of the clock.
THE WHOLE BIBLE, OFFLINE
The Berean Standard Bible and the World English Bible are both included and both work offline. Read by book and chapter, search every verse, highlight and bookmark, or have it read aloud in the best voice on your iPhone.
OUR PROMISE
No account. No ads. No AI. Nothing leaves your iPhone. Scripture is never behind a paywall. Screen Time data stays inside Apple's sandbox.
Why no AI and no social feed? Scripture doesn't need rewriting, and a quiet time with God shouldn't come with likes, followers or a chatbot.
Free forever: the full feed and reader in every translation, the Verse of the Day, every topic collection, your prayer journal and its history, Prayer Lock on as many apps as you like, streaks, seasonal challenges, home-screen widgets.
Altar+ unlocks:
- more lock schedules, other unlock rules and Hard Block;
- every theme and wallpaper style;
- memorisation decks, including a whole topic collection in one tap;
- challenge archives;
- Full-text Lock Screen widgets with Altar+;
- streak freezes.
Altar+ is $29.99/year (3 days free), $6.99/month, or $59.99 once for lifetime: no subscription to forget to cancel. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the period. Manage or cancel in Settings › your name › Subscriptions.
