Bitgoeul Gwangju is a camera app with photo filters inspired by Gwangju, South Korea, the "city of light". It captures the light, style and taste of the city. Sunrise spilling over the stone columns of Mudeungsan, neon signs on Chungjang-ro, the sheen of charcoal-grilled tteokgalbi. We turned 8 kinds of Gwangju light, 8 scenes of its art and alleys, and 8 inspirations from its food and café culture into 24 filters. These filters do more than tint. They find the bright spots in your photo and let the light bloom, split into starbursts or spread like haze, right where the street lamps, signs, sun and ripples are. ■ 8 LIGHT FILTERS • Seoseokdae — Sunrise spilling over Mudeungsan's stone columns • Sea of Clouds — Dawn clouds pooling below the Mudeungsan ridge • Yunseul — Sunlight breaking on the ripples of Gwangjucheon • May — Gwangju in May, fringe trees in white bloom • Haneul Madang — Sunset settling on the downtown grass hill • Silver Grass — Backlit silver grass along the Mudeungsan ridge • Sajik — Gwangju at night from the Sajik Park tower • Chungjang-ro — Neon signs pouring over Chungjang-ro at night ■ 8 STYLE FILTERS • Ink Wash — Ink bleeding into paper in a studio below Mudeungsan • Biennale — Bold color on a white gallery wall • Theater — An old single-screen theater with hand-painted signs • Yangnim — Ivy on red brick in the old mission quarter • Penguin Village — An alley hung with old clocks and tin pots • Media Art — Light from a UNESCO City of Media Arts • Balsan — Rainbow stairways of Balsan Village • Daein — Bare bulbs strung over the Daein night market ■ 8 TASTE FILTERS (sharp in the middle, soft at the edges) • Tteokgalbi — Charcoal-grilled Songjeong short-rib patties, glistening • Sangchu-twigim — Fresh fritters wrapped in crisp lettuce • Watermelon — Summer of the stripeless Mudeungsan watermelon • Kimchi — The red of freshly made kimchi • First Tea — A cup of first-flush tea from the Mudeungsan slopes • Boribap — A barley-rice table piled with greens • Oritang — Duck stew simmering in milky perilla broth • Dongmyeong — A slow afternoon on the Dongmyeong café street ■ HOW IT WORKS • Shoot with the filter applied live, on the front or back camera • Apply any filter to photos from your library • Two sliders, Intensity (color and texture) and Glow (light), each from 0 to 100 • Press and hold the photo, or tap Compare original, to view the original photo • Collapse the filter panel to see your photo larger • Bloom, starbursts, bokeh, haze and prism, plus ink bleed and a white frame • Save to Photos exactly as you see it, up to 4096 px on the long edge ■ PRIVATE BY DESIGN • No account, no sign-in, no ads • The app processes your photos on your device and never uploads them • Every feature works offline Available in English and Korean.
