Ishrah is a reading app of short lessons from the Quran and the Sunnah. Each lesson starts from a verse, a hadith, a prophet's story or a dua, then shows what psychology, neuroscience and philosophy found about why the guidance works. Three lessons are free, and reading them needs no account.
A LESSON, ONE PAGE AT A TIME
• About ten pages, six or seven minutes. Tap to go on.
• It starts from the source: a verse of the Quran, a hadith, a prophet's story or a dua.
• Then it brings in what scholars, philosophers and researchers found about the same thing, by name: al-Ghazali, Ibn al-Qayyim, Seneca, Epictetus, and each study with its year and who took part.
• It ends with three things to do today, and a dua where the lesson teaches one.
• Highlights mark the quoted words and the one line to keep. A ring marks the term from the research.
SOURCES YOU CAN CHECK
• Every lesson ends with its sources: the verse, the hadith with its collection and number, the scholar's book, the study.
• Verses of the Quran are shown in Arabic exactly as in the Tanzil Uthmani text.
• Before you open a lesson, the back of its book shows what it starts from, who is in it and how long it takes.
STORIES, PATHS AND SERIES
• Stories: one person's story from the Quran or the Sunnah, and what it shows. Musa, Yaqub, Maryam, Adam.
• Paths: a few lessons in order on one thing, such as When worry won't stop and When you've done wrong. Follow a path and Today brings one lesson of it a day.
• Series: long works, read from the beginning. Surah Yusuf, from the dream to the reunion. The Forty, on the hadith of al-Nawawi. The why behind it, on what the practices of the religion do.
TODAY
• The day's lesson, a hadith on the same subject and a dua.
• Widgets for the day's lesson, a hadith, a dua and your path on the Home Screen, and for the lesson and your path on the Lock Screen.
• Four colors to read in: Parchment, Paper, Sky and Sage. The widgets follow the one you pick.
WHAT ARE YOU CARRYING?
• Pick a word, such as fear, grief, anger, worry or regret, and see what its lesson says to do about it right now, with the dua it teaches.
• Under each word, authentic hadith on the same subject from HadeethEnc.com, each with who narrated it, its grade and the scholars' explanation.
YOUR SHELF
• Keep a lesson for later. The duas you meet in the lessons you finish are kept with it.
• Your shelf is saved to your account when you sign in with Apple, so it is still there on a new iPhone.
• Share a page of a lesson as a picture.
FREE AND SUBSCRIPTION
The three lessons of the path Enough, the hadith and the dua on Today, and the hadith under each word are free. Every other lesson, every series and the other paths open with a subscription, by the month or by the year. Your shelf, a path and a series ask you to sign in with Apple. A subscription renews automatically until it is cancelled in your Apple Account settings, at least 24 hours before the period ends.
Ishrah is the first word of Musa's dua, "open up my chest" (Quran 20:25). In everyday Arabic it also means "explain".
