Matyan: Armenian Poetry
Classic poems, read aloud
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Charents, Tumanyan, Terian, Tourian, Varoujan and six more poets: 92 classic poems read aloud in the original Armenian as each page paints itself. Three are free.
Matyan is a book of classic Armenian poetry that reads itself aloud.
Ninety-two poems by eleven great Armenian poets, in the original Armenian and in each poet's own words: Yeghishe Charents, Hovhannes Tumanyan, Vahan Terian, Bedros Tourian, Misak Metsarents, Daniel Varoujan, Ruben Sevak, Mikael Nalbandian, Raphael Patkanian, Smbat Shahaziz and Shushanik Kurghinian. Each poem is read aloud while its pages paint themselves around the verse, with music and sounds made for it. More poems will follow in updates.
Among them are Charents's I Love My Sweet Armenia and Spring Will Come Again, Nalbandian's Freedom and The Song of the Italian Girl (the poem behind Armenia's anthem), Tumanyan's With My Homeland, Terian's Autumn Melody, Tourian's The Little Lake and My Death, Metsarents's Love Song, Varoujan's Seas of Wheat and Ruben Sevak's The Last Call, read in Western Armenian.
• Read aloud by a male or a female narrator
• Each word inks in as it is read; touch a word to hear its line again
• A painting for every page, drawing itself with the words, and many of them answer a touch
• The pages turn by themselves, or wait for you
• Keep listening with the screen locked: the Lock Screen and headphones turn the pages
• Choose the typeface, size and ink of the text, and the volume of the voice, the music and the sounds
• Find a poem by its title, poet or first line, in Armenian or typed in Latin letters
• Menus in English or Armenian; the poems are always in Armenian
• Every text checked word by word against a scan of its first printing or of the poet's collected works, with each poem's source in the app
• No ads, no accounts, no tracking
