N-Ways is a free map and turn-by-turn navigation app for 15 West African countries: Nigeria, Ghana, Benin, Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Gabon and Cabo Verde. It is built for the roads you actually drive, ride and walk: no account needed, no fees, no subscription.
WHAT IT FIXES, FOR FREE
Get to the door, not just the street
Directions don't stop at the nearest road. N-Ways tells you where to park, then walks you in: "Bear left between the two buildings." Many places have a walk view: pictures of the way from the road to the entrance. In Nigeria, type a building's NIPOST postcode and go straight to it.
A home code for every home
In Benin, Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Gabon and Cabo Verde every building has a home code: the name of your quartier or village and a short number, unique in the whole country. Tap Get my code to find yours and share it in one tap.
Warned about potholes before you hit them
Drivers' phones feel bad road as they pass, and N-Ways warns you about potholes, bad stretches and flooded roads in time to slow down, or plans a route around them with Avoid bad roads.
Okada and keke bans? We route around them
Pick keke, okada, bus or taxi. Routes keep off roads and areas where they are banned, say where a taxi or bus has to take over, and link to the rule.
Fair fare, every ride
See the usual price for a taxi, shared taxi, bus, keke or okada before you get on, from what riders paid, with tips on agreeing a price. After the ride, tell N-Ways what you paid and the next person gets a better guide.
Talk to it in Pidgin
Ask in Pidgin, English, French or Portuguese with your hands on the wheel: how far you are, the traffic ahead, a fuel station on your way, or add a stop. It answers out loud.
Boat is faster? We'll tell you
When a Lagos ferry beats the traffic, Directions says so, with the jetty, the time saved, the boats' hours and the rough fare.
Works offline, light on data
Save your city's map once. It keeps working when the signal drops, and old maps clear themselves when your phone runs short of space.
A map drivers fix every day
Bus stops, doors, fares, parking, bad roads and road closures come from the people who use them. The map corrects itself when enough drivers agree, and you see how many people your reports helped.
ALSO ON THE ROAD
• Works with Apple CarPlay: turn-by-turn directions on your car's screen
• Spoken turn-by-turn directions, lane arrows, green road signs and traffic lights in colour
• Crash detection while you drive: if you don't answer after a hard crash, it tells the people you chose
• Police checkpoints reported by other drivers, and your rights at a checkpoint in each country
• Fuel for every trip in litres and in your own currency, with pump prices from drivers
• Tolls up front, with routes that avoid them
• Rain on the map and flood warnings in the rainy season
• Intercity buses, trains and flights in the same trip, with each border post and the papers you need
• Businesses with their prices, menus and opening hours, and owners can put theirs on the map for free
• Your week: streaks, badges and the places you went
PRIVATE BY DEFAULT
No account is needed for the map. We don't sell where you go, and nobody gets your trip history. Accounts are for people aged 18 and over.
N-Ways speaks French and Portuguese when your phone does. Change the language any time in Profile → Preferences → Language.
