A gifted box now opens right in the app: no App Store redemption, no billing address. Fixed the gift page sometimes not appearing when a gift link was opened.

Give a friend a mystery box: write a line, send a link, and they get a cat they don't have yet, on their own Apple account, back on a new phone too. After their first day, new users may win a free box to send to a friend. When the friend opens it, you get 10 fish. Small improvements.

New for January, Drink with Your Cat: from January 1, every glass of water you have, your cat has a sip with you, and the month fills up paw by paw. Miss a day? No problem, carry on tomorrow. Home Screen widget: see what your cat is up to at a glance, also in StandBy. New in Plus: your cat comes to find you once a day at most, picking up on what you talked about; medium and Lock Screen widgets, where you can eat with it and give it fish; and the yearly plan now comes with 2 mystery boxes. You can now try Plus free for 3 days.

Pet your cat: head, chin, belly, paws and tail each get their own reaction, and pressing and holding gets a stretch. Each spot has several, and too much petting makes it grumpy. All 12 cats. Waving, head tilts, hiding its face and turning away now flow from sitting instead of cutting to a photo. Ask your cat in chat and it's done: rename it, change mealtimes or bedtime, give it a fish or play with it. Every change can be undone. Choosing your cat is now a deck of cards you swipe through, with mystery boxes at the end. A much smaller download: a cat's clips now arrive when you bring it home. New in Plus: up to 3 cats at home, twice the fish, a laser pointer and a ball of yarn, and your cats remember what you tell them. Fixed: tapping the cat in the first few seconds after opening the app did nothing.

Turn your iPhone sideways and Maozai becomes a desk clock with your cat beside the time. At night it dims. A redesigned chat: your cat stays at the top while the conversation scrolls underneath. Your cat reacts in more ways when you pet it.

Six new breeds arrive in mystery boxes: Ragdoll, Minuet, Bengal, British Golden, American Shorthair and Norwegian Forest. No repeats. New in Settings, My Cats: switch cats any time, and every cat keeps its own chats and diary.
