New: Compressible, with Pro. Turn JPEG, PNG and ProRAW photos into HEIC and videos into HEVC, keeping their date, place, favorites and albums. Each photo and video gets the smallest copy that still looks the same, and ones that wouldn't save much are left alone. Compression keeps going when you leave the app. You'll get a notification when the copies are ready, and nothing in your library changes until you swap them in. Quality checks are now twice as fast, and Settings has a new Acknowledgements page.

New: Your Year in Photos. A look back at your year: how many photos and videos you took, your busiest month and day, your longest video, and what you cleaned up. Pick up the last card, turn it in your hand, and share it. Also new: compress big videos to 1080p and turn Live Photos into stills, keeping their date, place, favorites and albums, with Pro. And Saved Images gathers pictures saved from chats, the web and other apps. Share your results after a cleanup, from Your Progress, or when you reach a 7, 30, 100 or 365-day streak. Cards show only numbers, never your photos. Open your year with Siri, from the app icon or from the widget in December and January. A reminder on December 5 tells you it's ready, and you can turn it off in Settings.

• Space Map: see what takes up space as blocks you can open, from your photo library and your Large Files folder down to each photo and file. The first level is free; opening blocks is part of Pro. • Sort Duplicates, Similar Photos, Screenshots and more by size or date, and videos by length. Large Files sorts by size, date, length or name. • Every photo shows its size, and videos their length. • Touch and hold a photo in a cleanup list to see it large. • The first scan shows how far along it is and how much it has found so far.

• Hold the app icon to jump straight to Swipe Review, your biggest cleanup, Large Files or Progress. • Swipe Review cards stay full size while photos download from iCloud. Wide photos and videos now show in full. • Each card shows its size and date, and videos show their length. • After you delete photos, Open Photos takes you to the Photos app to empty Recently Deleted.
