iPad
Bandal is an iPad app that brings everything you need for university study onto one screen. Organize PDFs, notes and handwriting by course, and split the screen to view several materials side by side.
PDF and handwriting
- Open lecture PDFs and write on them with a pen, ballpoint or highlighter. Apple Pencil pressure and tilt are supported.
- Select ink with the lasso to move it, and add shapes and text boxes.
- Highlight and annotate the source text, rearrange or delete pages, and undo.
- Create blank handwriting notes with your choice of paper, and whiteboards.
Notes
- Write Markdown notes with headings, lists, checklists, tables and formulas.
- Place PDF pages and notes side by side and link them.
Workspace
- Drag tabs to split the screen horizontally or vertically. Courses and your reading position are restored the next time you open the app.
- A built-in browser for school sites and course materials, to-dos and schedules, and Apple Calendar integration.
AI
- Enter your own OpenAI, Anthropic or Google API key to ask questions with your materials attached. Keys are stored only in the iPad Keychain.
- The app asks for consent before the first request to each provider; questions and attachments go from the iPad straight to the provider you chose.
Storage
- Everything is stored on your iPad. No account is needed.
Ratings & Reviews

- Use materials and AI side by side in the right panel, with chat, quiz, flashcard and practice-question modes (requires your own API key).
- Point to part of a PDF, note or web page and attach it to your AI question.
- Drag images from the Photos & Files tray into PDFs and Markdown, and adjust Markdown image size and alignment.
- Copy a PDF area as an image with the lasso, or move selected handwriting to another page.
- View materials as icons, a list or a gallery.
- PDFs and thumbnails open faster.
