Chrysanthemum Yijing
I Ching Coins + Yarrow Stalks
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Cast with coins or yarrow stalks, read every line of the sixty-four hexagrams, and keep a journal of your readings. Free for a week.
Chrysanthemum Yijing consults the Book of Changes the way it has been consulted for a thousand years: with three coins, or with forty-nine stalks of yarrow. Hold your question in mind, cast the six lines from the bottom up, and read the answer: the judgment, the image, and every line, in plain present-day English.
THREE WAYS TO CAST
• Chinese coins, tossed on the screen, one line at a time.
• Yarrow stalks, the older way, divided and counted off round by round as the Great Commentary describes, so the lines fall with the stalks’ own odds: a changing solid line three times as often as a changing broken one.
• Your own coins: throw them by hand and enter each sum.
Quick Cast, in Settings, casts all six lines with one touch.
WHAT TO READ
Each cast shows your hexagram and, when lines change, the hexagram it is changing to, and says in a sentence which lines to read and which to read first. Every hexagram opens in full: the judgment, the Image, the six lines with their commentary, and the Commentary on the Judgment, with your changing lines marked.
HEXAGRAMS OF THE DAY
The Daily and the Lunar hexagram of the Chinese almanac, the Tong Shu, worked out for every day from 1999 to 2061. One day in nine has no daily hexagram: a day to consult the Yijing yourself. All sixty-four are there to browse.
A JOURNAL
Each reading is kept with its date, your question, and your notes, to read again and add to later.
THE TEXTS
Adapted from James Legge’s 1882 translation, Yi King, adapted to present-day English and checked line by line against the Chinese. Pinyin and characters appear beside each title, or can be turned off.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
No account, no ads, no tracking. Your questions and your journal stay on your iPhone or iPad.
