FIVE SOURCES, MORE WAYS TO KEEP READING Choose the Hacker News website, Firebase, Algolia, HNRSS or a self-hosted HNRSS mirror. If a source is unavailable, try another. The website source reads pages directly, collecting story details together rather than requesting each item separately, while retaining story order and comment hierarchy. 23 CONTENT CATEGORIES Go beyond the front page with Pool, Invited, Highlights, Active, Launches and more. Newest AI and Newest No-AI offer separate paths for following or skipping AI-related stories on the self-hosted HNRSS source. Categories depend on the selected source. ON-DEVICE TRANSLATION Translate titles, post text and comments locally after downloading the required language models. Reduce network round trips to cloud translation services and keep reading with less waiting. Choose your target language and manage models in Settings. DISCOVER AND SEARCH Browse popular, new and best stories, Ask HN, Show HN and jobs. Search posts and comments, then filter by type, date range, score, comment count and author. BOOKMARKS BEYOND YOUR PHONE Save posts as local bookmarks. Open the bookmark access page to view the list and follow links from a computer browser on the same Wi-Fi. WEB TRANSLATION AND PIXEL STYLE Optionally open external articles through an online webpage translation service. Pixel fonts and a retro interface add character to everyday reading. Content loading and webpage translation require internet access. On-device translation requires model downloads first; it applies to in-app text, while external webpages use an online service. Web translation depends on the service and website. Wi-Fi bookmark access requires the access page to remain open in the app. Categories vary by source. M Hacker is a third-party client and is not affiliated with Hacker News or Y Combinator.
