The Black Pits is very buggy (and now broken)

The first two games are great, but the black pits is terrible. You can’t make your own characters (they start off dead and can’t be resurrected), and half way through playing there was an update and all the fonts suddenly changed and are now competely unreadablly small.

My originaly review from 2017 gave this this game only 2 stars because the developer was unable to provide the latest version of the game on the Mac App Store for years while updated versions of the game were available on other platforms (the MAS version was stuck on version 1.3 for 3 years while the rest of the world was enjoying version 2.5).Lo and behold, it now appears the developer finally updated the MAS version. As a result, I can now heartily recommend Baldur's Gate II Enhanced Edition. This is a classic RPG that has been given new life. Fantastic, mythic storylines filled with drama, romance, humor, and wit, Badlur's Gate EE has nearly endless replay value. Well worth the money if you love a good story and enjoy solid imaginative D&D gameplay. Buy it!(Original 2-star review included below for reference)-------------It’s been 2 years since version 1.3 came out, and version for other systems and platforms have moved on past version 2.0 and then some. The developer has given nothing but non-believable excuses for why they can’t update the Mac App Store version of this game. I would have given this game 5 stars except for the fact that the Mac App Store version is seriously outdated, with hundreds more bugs than the current version available on Steam. There is no excuse for a failure to update of this magnitude. Do not buy.

I’m adding my voice to the complaints about a complete lack of updates since 1.3. It’s as if Beamdog has abandoned the Mac App Store version of this game and that is severely disappointing. I’d say, “Lesson learned. I’ll just buy games on another platform from now on,” but how is that an acceptable outcome?Such a shame, because while a number of aspects of the game are dated, it’s still a great deal of fun to get that D&D fix. (Especially when it’s hard to get a group of friends together for the actual tabletop game!)

I just bought this game for my MacBook Air M1 running macOS Big Sur. Lots of problems from the beginning. I couldn't access the game menus or they would not open on the screen, but the killer problem was that after 10 minutes of trying non-working menus, I had to force a quit using option command esc. This game is not worth the money if the game cannot even run on the machine. It is not even worth downloading if the game was to be offered for free.

Hello! Try the following: go to Finder → Applications, right-click on "Baldur's Gate II - Enhanced Edition", select "Get Info". In the window that appears, under "General", be sure to set "Open in Low Resolution" to TRUE.
