The universe is endlessly vast. A single atom is impossibly small. And somewhere between those two extremes lies everything that has ever existed.
We believe that feeling — the electric, spine-tingling sense of scale — belongs to everyone. Not just scientists. Not just students. Everyone.
That's why we built Universal Zoom.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
• Zoom seamlessly from the Planck length to the edge of the observable universe — 270+ objects presented to perfect scale.
• Compare any two objects side by side: how many Earths fit inside Jupiter? How does a virus measure up against a skyscraper? Instant, visual, intuitive. (No other scale app lets you do this.)
• Go deeper with audio narration and short, accessible explanations — the facts that matter, in plain language.
WHAT YOU'LL EXPLORE
• Subatomic particles. DNA. Living cells. Animals and landmarks. Planets, stars, and galaxies. Spanning physics, biology, and astronomy — in 40 languages, with metric, imperial, or powers-of-ten units.
• Real high-resolution photos and electron microscope images, where possible. Original artwork for things that can't be photographed — like elementary particles and DNA structures.
• No ads. No in-app purchases. Pure discovery.
BUILT WITH YOU
We're a team of two (Andrey and Oksana) from Canada who have poured a decade into this app because we genuinely love science. Most objects come from community suggestions — carefully fact-checked and updated with every new discovery. Over 200 more are already in the queue.
FOR EDUCATORS
Used by teachers worldwide to visualize scale, build measurement intuition, and turn abstract numbers into "aha" moments. Available at 50% off for schools via Apple School Manager (20+ copies).

What an amazing app. It’s beautiful, intuitive, packed full of information and so engaging. I spent hours reading just about everything. The range is from the smallest named unit of measurement to the observable universe. I hope updates come with new things to learn about and compare. The music and voice over can be turned on or off (default is on) and you can choose from five accents in English. You can change the text size and units of measurement (imperial, metric or powers of ten). No ads, no in-app purchases, no subscriptions, always a plus. Running iOS 15 and so far, no bugs. I had lots of fun comparing the average woman (about my height) too crazy sizes like zeptometers. I had never heard of a zeptometer, but I have now. If you like learning this is a great app to add to your purchases. I absolutely recommend it.

Thank you for such a comprehensive review! 😃 We like zeptometers too! 🥰
Easy & phenomenal

3rd review April 2024. Great app and after several years, I am still using it to gain perspective and increase my understanding. 2nd review 2021. It is hard to explain how great this app is. On my first review more than a year ago, I thought it was phenomenal. After longer experience, I find it even better. Wow! I like the way I can compare sizes, eg, a whale shark and an African elephant. Try it on Apple TV on a big screen TV for an even better appreciation of the immense variation of sizes. This app gives one an appreciation for the scale of the universe from the tiniest particles to the largest immensity.

Thank you very much for your feedback!
3.0 UPDATE!

Hello To Whom This May Concern, I Have Noticed Some Updates That Made To This App, I Would Like To Make Suggestions On Other Future Updates You Post And Some I Would Like You To Return Back To It’s Original Positions/ColorsSome Future Updates I Suggest Are:1. Pistol Star (White Supergiant Star That Lays In The Pistol Nebula)2. Monarch Butterfly Life Cycle (Metamorphosis Stage)And:3. Custom Object Feature (In Settings) (Choose Photos And Set Them To Scale)Updates I Would Like To Change Back (If Possible)1. Spiny Seahorse: Return To Left Facing Direction (Where It Used To Be)2. Venus: Back To Original Surface Texture/Color (Where It Used To Be)And:3. Neptune: Return To Original Sky Blue Color (Where It Used To Be)I Hope You Take Some Of These Suggestions Into Consideration As I Really Enjoy Using This App For Looking At The Scale Of The Universe. Thank You For The Updates!
Developer Response
Thanks for your review and suggestions, as always. We added them to the list for future updates. We usually update the objects' images when a better quality asset is available (for Venus) or when a more accurate representation is published (for Venus) or when a more accurate representation is published (for Neptune).More about Neptune color update: In January 2024, a study led by Professor Patrick Irwin (University of Oxford) reprocessed the original Voyager 2 data using more accurate color calibration from modern instruments like Hubble’s Wide Field Camera 3 and ground-based spectrographs. This produced true-color representations (what the human eye would roughly see). Neptune and Uranus are both a similar pale greenish-blue (sometimes described as hazy cerulean or light cyan). Neptune has a slight extra hint of blue due to a thinner haze layer in its atmosphere.
Amazing and informative

Beautifully assembled samples and fascinating information presented in such a fun way. My son learned so much from this. I take any opportunity to share science with him. To the developer: recent findings indicate UY Scuti is not nearly as large as previously thought. Recent discovery also found a new contender, Stephenson 2-18 which is definitely larger anyway. Previous candidate VY Canis Major is also larger. I submitted a link through the app support form.
Developer Response
Stephenson 2-18 has been added in the recent version 2.6. Thank you for the suggestion.
In this minor update, we focused on polishing the app based on your feedback.
• Fixed and improved many translations
• Resolved various minor UI layout issues
• Enhanced images for several objects
New additions:
• Artemis II
• Falcon Heavy
• UY Scuti (returned with updated measurements based on your votes on YouTube and TikTok)
We also added a stunning new image of Earth taken by the Artemis II crew.
Thank you for your continued feedback — it truly helps make Universal Zoom better with every update!
