Solar System Scope is a fun way of Exploring, Discovering and Playing with the Solar System and Outer Space.
Solar System Scope (or just Solar) contains many views and celestial simulations, but most of all - it brings you closer to the furthest reaches of our world and lets you experience lots of fantastic space sceneries.
It aspires to be the most illustrative, easy to understand and simple to use space model.
- 3D Encyclopedia
In Solar’s unique encyclopedia you will find the most interesting facts about every planet, dwarf planet, every major moon and more – and everything is accompanied by realistic 3D visualizations.
Solar’s encyclopedia is available in 10 languages: English, Spanish, German, Russian, Italian, Korean and Slovak. More languages are coming soon!
- Nightsky Observatory
Enjoy Stars and constellation of the night sky as viewed from any given location on Earth. You can point your device at the sky to see all objects in their proper place, but you can also simulate Night sky in the past or in the future.
Now with advanced options that let you simulate ecliptic, equatorial and azimuthal line, or grid (among other things).
- Scientific Instrument
Solar System Scope calculations are based on up-to-date orbital parameters published by NASA and let you simulate celestial positions at any given time.
- For Everyone
Solar System Scope is well suited for all audiences and ages: It is enjoyed by space enthusiasts, teachers, scientists, but Solar is successfully used even by children of 4+ years of age!
- Unique Maps
We are proud to present a very unique set of planetary and moon maps, that let you experience a true-color space as never before.
These accurate maps are based on NASA elevation and imagery data. Colors and shades of the textures are tuned according to true-color photos made by Messenger, Viking, Cassini and New Horizon spacecrafts, and the Hubble Space Telescope.
Basic resolution of these maps is for free – but if you would like the best experience, you can check out the highest quality, which is available with In-App purchase.

This is really a fantastic app, it was almost what I was looking for to explore our own solar system. I think the mechanics and representations are great, the only reason I can’t give five stars is that what I was hoping to see and learn more about was the other moons of the planets. I appreciate the fact that even the dwarf planets are represented already, but Jupiter and Saturn are only represented with a handful of moons here, where, in reality, each has 53 confirmed moons and many more provisional moons. I was really hoping to see their orbit and and the encyclopedia detail provided for the other entities that already exist in the app (even if what is known about them is limited - if there isn’t enough information to represent them in the model, they should at least be listed as such in the planet’s moons with whatever minimal detail is available... representing the lack of information is just as important to curious minds). So, ultimately, I’m wishing for more detail... but, I don’t want to detract from how great this app is for what is already in there.
Developer Response
Dear Jodohr, we appreciate your review and rating so much and are glad you like our app. We plan to add more celestial objects, along with all moons of other planets. We know there are more moons to each planet that we display in the app. Our encyclopedia refers to them. Not sure, if displaying of all of them would "fit", but thats our plan :) Thank you for your support and have a nice day.
Solar System Scope
Galaxy Genius
This is the best app I have ever experienced in my entire life! My intelligence about space increased by at least 45%. I love this app so much, that I am going to keep it forever. Solar System Scope has taught me so many things about space in just one day! I love how realistic it is. Literally the stars, planets, and other things look so real! You guys did a good job, and I appreciate it. One thing I wish the app could do is: Visit Messieurs. I wish it could be able to go to the Messieurs so you can see them up close, and clearly. It would be so beautiful and cool to be able to see the Messieurs up close (Visit). If you could try updating it so you could be able to see other things like Messieurs, Comets, and Satellites, that would be great. Another last thing I wish the app could do is: Exploring other Galaxies! That would be so great, I would never delete the app in my life! If this app could visit other Galaxies, it would be so Awesome, everyone would have it. But other than those two things, the app is incredibly amazing!!! Great job you guys; you have changed my view about space, and the Galaxy. Thank You
Strange limitations
Awaiting Lucky Day
Was quite pleased to find this app. An accurate bird’s eye view of the solar system for any date was just what I had hoped to find. That said, I see two strange limitations. The first is orientation of the program. I use an iPad in horizontal or landscape position with the bottom of the device to the left and the top to the right. For whatever reason this app, unlike every other app fails to orient itself to match. It always shows the program upside down, requiring me to disconnect the iPad, disconnect the power and rotate it 180 degrees. Most odd. Next, there is no ability to show the positions of the planets for a specific date. There are only the forward and reverse buttons of varying speeds. Even at the slowest speeds it is difficult if not impossible to zero in on a specific date. Other than those two items I’m glad I found this great app. Thanks!
More than I was looking for
Ramc88
I was only looking for a map of the solar system and how it would look a few months in the future. Oh wow was I underestimating this app. It has tons of stars, moons, planets, detailed maps and guiding points, and more! Some things are a bit too much at times, but never fear! The video settings lets you toggle what things you want to see! It shows you the perspective from earth’s orbit, all the way to the whole Milky Way galaxy fitting on my screen! This is an amazing way to plan for things like viewing planet conjunctions, as well as just exploring the visible universe up close! My only suggestion is making it so that you can lock on to nebulas like you can other objects, as well as maybe making a free look mode where you can fly through the universe without having anything locked on to. Thanks so much for a great app!!
