A Note on Battery
We’ve spent *years* developing the location technology that powers Foursquare Swarm, making it extremely power efficient. But, as with all apps of this type, continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life
"What was the name of that coffee shop?" Foursquare's Swarm helps you remember where you've been — from your local favorites to your world travels — with a simple check-in. See where you and your friends have checked in and view tips from others who have visited before.
Mayorships not as fun
claidheamdanns
Please return the mayorship upset witty remarks. And make the picture big again. It used to be bigger when you stole the mayorship. One of my biggest ongoing frustrations is that it’s really hard to check in single-handedly without dropping the phone. I called this out during beta, but it went unheeded. The check in button should be in the middle bottom, not the side. Middle bottom makes it ambidextrous and allows anyone to check in with one hand, while leaving the other hand free for all the things we carry in our daily lives. We shouldn’t have to use 2 hands, one to hold the phone, and the other to check in. This app is designed for on the go, but that part of the interface is not.
Swarm user for years, frustrated with lack of fixes
hyena17
I was a Foursquare user for a long time, then got moved to Swarm when they were forcing people to switch. It has been a great way to keep a history of my check-ins, and I like to have it linked to my twitter. I have two huge problems though and they have persisted for years and I have emailed and tweeted support multiple times and they either ignore me or tell me they are “working on it.” Well, they’ve been “working on it” for years now and nothing has changed.First, the app is hit-or-miss in whether it recognizes an event is taking place at the location of your check in. For example, checking in at a music venue and it doesn’t recognize a concert is taking place, or at an arena and it doesn’t recognize the pro sporting event that’s happening. This has gotten worse the last few years and it only recognizes maybe 60% of the events I’m attending. And these are huge events with anywhere from 1K-20k people. Secondly, if you have the app linked to twitter, it tweets your check-in, then ruins it by sticking an ad in the tweet with a pic of their logo and link to the Swarm website. It makes your timeline ugly as hell and you can’t change it.I wish to hell there was a different app I could use for check ins but unfortunately Swarm is the only one, so I’m stuck. I would pay $$$ for an app that fixed these issues, but oh well.
Still Love the App, but Experienced 1st Hiccup
h greed
So, after 10+ years. I experienced my first hiccup. I went to a show in my city. I checked into the Parking Deck. No issues there. I get in the venue. I take some pics before the show starts. I attempt to check-in and it even popped up the venue’s event. I selected it. Added my 2 pics. It timed out. I tried it again. It mimicked like it work and disappeared. I thought i was good to go. This was a Friday. Today is Sunday. I noticed Saturday it didn’t take. I have been trying since yesterday to scan the pic. It will not work. I don’t know what the issue is. I don’t know how to contact Support because its just an articles page. Check-in missed. First check-in miss in 10+ years where the app missed it. I’ve missed check-ins by forgetting in the past. But the app never missed. Especially since the introduction to missed check-ins. I’m annoyed because it was a dope event that others who I’ve invited to use the app checked into the event. No issues. Maybe it was the fact so many people attended the event. Might’ve confused the app. I don’t know. But the scan pic not working is new to me or new for me. I don’t know.
