Say hello to Owly, a cute little menu bar companion that keeps your Mac awake, on your terms.
When you need your screen to stay on, whether you're watching a video, monitoring a download, or keeping live stats visible, Owly steps in and prevents your Mac from dimming, launching screen savers, or going to sleep.
HOW IT WORKS:
Simply right click the Owly icon in your menu bar to toggle it on or off. When active, the icon lights up so you always know at a glance. Choose a duration right from the menu.
TWO SLEEP PREVENTION MODES:
1. Display + System: keeps both your screen and Mac fully awake
2. Display Only: keeps just the screen on while allowing your Mac to sleep normally
SMART TRIGGERS THAT WORK FOR YOU:
- Schedule: set Owly to automatically activate and deactivate at specific times each day, with overnight support
- Power triggers: automatically enable when you connect or disconnect from power
- App triggers: choose specific apps that automatically activate Owly when they're running
- Battery threshold: Owly steps aside when your battery drops below a percentage you set, so you never accidentally drain to zero
CUSTOMIZABLE TO FIT YOUR SETUP:
- 10 menu bar icon colors to match your style: Default, System Accent, Blue, Purple, Pink, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, or White
- Optional countdown timer in your menu bar showing how long Owly will stay active
- Global keyboard shortcut to toggle Owly from anywhere
- Launch at login so it's always ready
- Show or hide the dock icon
GREAT FOR:
- Watching videos outside fullscreen mode
- Monitoring live dashboards, stats, or downloads
- Presentations and screen sharing
- Long-running tasks you want to keep an eye on

Yet another reason to love this app

I won't repeat the other reviewers here that all say this app is PERFECT, but I will add yet another reason to love it. If you connect a smart TV to your Mac through the HDMI port (to use as a monitor), you'll notice that most smart TV's will sleep after 10 or so minutes, with NO ABILITY to disable this sleep mode, either through the TV or Mac, because no keyboard/mouse inputs are being received by the smart TV. Owly solves this problem by (apparently) sending enough signal inputs to the TV to stay on. This is a huge blessing, because my smart TV would turn off after 10 minutes of no mouse/keyboard inputs. Owly has solved yet another sleep issue. Thank you and please keep this app alive!!!
One of my must-have useful apps.

Like many others I’m also coparing this app to Caffeine! I think the app is wonderful and everything positive that can be said about it has been said. I have been wishing that I could activate it with just one click and only recently discovered that with a right-click I can do just that. Turn it on to the defauld duration selected in preferences. The one additional feature I would love is to have is an option for the wake time to start after the last detected activity on the computer (keyboard, mouse, etc). So that the timer effectively starts from the time you move away from the computer rather than from when you select the timer.
One of my 100% apps — Excellent!

This is one of the few apps that I have running 100% of the time. I find it so convenient to be able to keep my screen on all the time when I am around it, but then click it to screen saver if I leave my office. I used to use the “hot corners” feature of the screen saver for this, but I would unintentionally turn on screen saver, so turned that feature off.My Mac is my “planner” at work, so it’s helpful to have the screen visible all the time, even if I am not typing or clicking for a while. I also like that I can have Owly in the bar at the top of the screen without having it take up a spot in the dock.
Thank you!

I love this app. My company forces computers to lock after 3 minutes, which means I can be thinking about something and have my computer lock on me. They disabled Touch ID and disabled the ability to adjust the lock timing. I understand this from a security perspective, but I am working from home. I live alone. So unless someone breaks in, no one has access to this computer whether locked or not. So I installed this app to get around it. It works perfectly!!! It prevents my display from sleeping and my computer from locking. Before I was moving my mouse incessently like a psychopath and now I can work peacefully! Thanks Owly!
