Marked provides document navigation and statistics, proofreading tools, multiple export formats, and much more. Marked comes with 9 preview styles built in (including GitHub), and you can add unlimited custom styles of your own.
MultiMarkdown processing is provided for writers, complete with tables, footnotes, file transcludes, and other MultiMarkdown-specific features.
GitHub users will appreciate Marked's built in GitHub Flavored Markdown processor, capable of handling fenced code blocks, line break preservation and automatic hyperlinking.
Marked is powerful enough to allow custom processors (shell scripts) before and/or instead of the built in processors, allowing custom Markdown processing and use of non-Markdown text processors.
Marked works with Scrivener, Ulysses, MarsEdit, Highland 2, iThoughtsX, MindNode, and other third-party apps, allowing you to use Markdown and see beautiful previews just about anywhere.

The best solution for writing documentation
Cocosaurus Rex
I tried many "Markdown Editors" and found them all lacking; neither the editors nor the markdown displays worked well. One of them requires your work to be on iCloud to render properly (whoever thought that was a god idea?). Here's the perfect solution: edit your markdown document with xcode (it has line numbers, and that makes moving around easier), and concurrently display it with Marked 2. Marked 2 updates whenever a save is done, and xcode saves the document every few minutes (assuming the option to do so is on). Also, it has a better rendering engine. It's truly a beautiful solution. Marked 2 is well worth the money. I just wish I had discovered this solution sooner.

Great app - unless you are using Ulysses - Updated
Rick in AL
I’ve changed the rating to 3 stars since it does work well with editors other than Ulysses. The issues with Ulysses still exist and you have to go with external files for it to work. My biggest issue with this is that it isn’t mentioned that Ulysses support is somewhat less than 100% out of the box. The other issue I had was no free trial to evaluate the tool. Although I was assured that they had always offered a free trial, it isn’t offered on the App Store. Apparently a free trial isn’t part of the revenue stream. So all in all, the product works with the other markdown editors we tried it with and with Ulysses if you don’t mind using external files.*********************************************************************************************************************************************I went ahead and dropped the $14 to get this app (wish they’d hgad a free trial) to see if this was something we might want to use company wide. We are a Ulysses house when it comes to Markdown and Marked 2 said it worked with Ulysses. I does - kinda.Marked 2 can’t read a Ulysses sheet and will fail if you drag a doc in a sheet to it. Marked 2 only works if your Ulysses docs are in the exxternal folders which breaks them into markdown files. We use the external folders in Ulysses ONLY when absolutely required for collaboration, when they need to be on an external server or were created in another Markdown app. Again, would have been great if they had mentioned that they only partially support Ulysses in the sales pitch but I guess the $14 was the whole point. I guess if you like Ulysses and the way it works, save your money and just preview periodically. I guess this is why we have 14 day free trials - too bad Brett Terstra doesn’t.
Developer Response
Updated response: Ulysses previews simply require using ⌘6 and pressing return once you set Marked up as the external editor. This is clearly documented in the help.I'm uncertain where you got the idea that 14-day trials were an option on the Mac App Store. They are not, unless I switch to a subscription model. The trial is available via the website and, as stated, always has been.***I'm happy to let you know that there is and has always been a free trial of Marked 2 at http://marked2app.com. As detailed in your support request, Marked supports Ulysses to the fullest extent possible. Ulysses does not provide text files on disk that Marked can read, but does provide full previews via their quick export (⌘6) preview. I'm sorry to see that you've chosen to see this as a shortcoming in Marked.
Inspiringly great

Sure, it has great Markdown previews, but it really shines because of its well-explained and well-organized options. Exploring them can unlock capabilities you probably don't know about: equations, text folding, application integrations, and proofing. Brett has continually tended to Marked for many years and it shows. Whether reading alongside your primary editor or exporting, you won't be disappointed.
