Steel your creative resolve and beat writer's block with our new, themed prompt packs. Purchase credits to unlock packs in a variety of themes and genres (the first one's on us). *NEW!* Free writing prompts! Tens of thousands of writers have trusted Transom to organize their thoughts on the fly. But what if you don't have anything to write about? Transom's built-in prompts are a great way to jumpstart your writing process and maintain your creative momentum. Tap the "light bulb" icon (either in the Thoughts list or when creating a new Thought) to receive a fun little idea-starter — and fear the blank page no more!

NEW! A big update to the EXPORT feature: save or share your Thoughts as PDF, RichText File, or CSV — and customize that export by Project or Tag. How it works: when viewing the list of Thoughts in any Project or Tag, tap the three dots in the top right and select Export. (Or you can go through the main Preferences menu, which is found by tapping the three dots in the bottom right corner.) Then select which Projects or Tags to export, and then the format you want it in. Share it with yourself or someone else using any of the built-in methods available via the iPhone menu.

Thanks to your feedback, we have fixed a few small issues with creating and editing Thoughts while filtering through the Projects and Tags lists. Write on!

As famed aviator Chuck Yeager said, "The best pilots fly more than the others; that's why they're the best." The same can be said for writers! Transom now helps you build up creative momentum with a daily nudge to write 100 words — plus a new in-app calendar to track your writing streaks.

We fixed some visual quirks in the iPad layout and improved refresh and synchronization when using Transom across multiple devices. Taking notes on the iPad is now much cleaner, especially in landscape mode with the iPad Smart Keyboard. Give it a try!

WHOOPS. Our new autosave feature loved your Thoughts so much it saved some of them twice. Sorry 'bout that! Found it, fixed it, shipped it. As a result, you might still have some old double-think in there (we didn't want to mess with anyone's existing data), but you can easily get rid of them — from the Thoughts view, just swipe right to archive, or swipe left to delete. Neat? Sweet.

Now with autosave! Furthering our mission to help you never again lose an idea, Transom now saves an open Thought every 60 seconds. So if you get pulled away from the app mid-Thought (by an email, phone call, or my sister-in-law's awesome new TikTok video), you won't lose your progress. You'll notice in the header that the saved-on date will automatically reflect the time of the most recent auto-save. (Otherwise, the app works the same — namely, you can still tap the "check" to manually save.) Stay healthy, writers!

Sequestered? Quarantined? Stir crazy? Sounds like a good excuse to take some notes on the novel, eh? Good news: we just made it even easier! Now you can quickly create Thoughts from the iOS share menu — just copy some text (from any website or other app), tap "share," and then tap the Transom icon. You can even tag it or add it to a Piece — all without having to open up Transom. Other cool stuff: In the Tags and Pieces lists, you can now see a count of the Thoughts associated with each one. Also, long-press on a Thought to see a preview of it (including the Piece and Tags), saving you the trouble of diving in and out of Thoughts to find that one, magical line you wrote down. Plus a few bug fixes, like speeding up the process of renaming a Piece, cleaning up the list UI, renaming the export filename, and making the "added" state of Pieces and Tags in the Thought view more prominent. You asked, we listened: text formatting! bulleted lists! editable RTF export! barbecue chicken! Ok, the last one wasn't a feature request — I was just in the mood for it. But the rest of the stuff is now in the app and twice as saucy. You can highlight text to make it bold, italicized, and/or underlined — and you can create easy bulleted lists by starting any new line with a "-". All your Thoughts have a word count and created/last-edited date at the top — more ways to help you organize and contextualize those little unpolished gems that'll someday become Nobel candidates. (Hey, why aim low, m'right?) Meanwhile, our genius software developer also fixed a bunch of small bugs *and* made it possible to export your Thoughts in an editable rich-text file. Not that you don't want your Thoughts in Transom, it's just...you know, sometimes they need to see other apps. It's not us, it's them. We totally get it. A billion thanks to all the writers who have generously shared their feedback and ideas, as well as to all those who continue to make good use of this little labor-of-love. Without you, Transom would just be an expensive and self-indulgent hobby.

**BIG DESIGN UPDATE** Thanks to feedback from the writer community, Transom is cleaner, leaner, and simpler than ever. Hi, writers! A couple of small updates in this version: first, the word count of each Thought will display just above the keyboard while editing it. Why? We believe in writing at least 100 words per day, and this will help you know when you've hit your daily goal. (Pro tip: you can turn this off in the main menu.) Next, you'll see each Thought's tags displayed above the keyboard -- this will save you a few taps when trying to find that specific Thought. Hey writers! In this version, we did a couple of nearly invisible but pretty important things. We added the App Store rating modal so you can more easily tell us how we're doing (we tried to make it go up to 11, but Apple wouldn’t let us). We also implemented Mixpanel tracking to better understand how writers use Transom. This will allow us to make the app objectively better, as opposed to using our old methods of “just making things up.” All this to say: the best way to make Transom better is to keep using it and to tell us how it's going. Just in time for NaNoWriMo, some helpful new features: * EXPORT: send yourself a PDF of all your Thoughts and Tags for safe keeping. * SORT: all newly created or edited Thoughts float to the top of your main Thoughts view for quick access to the freshest ideas. * SAVE: when editing Thoughts, the "save" check mark is now on the left to prevent writers from accidentally deleting Thoughts.
