You can now remove the space between paragraphs. The line spacing button in the toolbar, and the Line Spacing menu under Format, now add or remove the space between paragraphs. Documents from Word usually leave a gap after every paragraph — select the text and remove it in one click. • The Replace field in the find bar is now in your language; it showed Chinese text whatever language you used. • The Help menu opens the help pages in the language Word Writer is using. • Fixed garbled text in Hebrew and Indonesian in the message that asks whether to save your changes. • Word Writer does much less work while the cursor blinks and whenever the page is redrawn, so it no longer stalls on older Macs. • Fixed a crash that could happen in Word documents with form fields (content controls).

Saving documents in Word format (.docx and .doc) is part of Word Writer Premium again, together with inserting tables and pictures. If you have already bought Premium, nothing changes for you. Opening and editing Word documents is free, and you can save in OpenDocument, RTF and other formats or export a PDF at no cost. • Word Writer no longer shows the Premium window on its own while you work. • Fixed a crash that could happen when you chose to save a document while closing its window. • If Word Writer could not start because its engine settings were damaged, it now repairs them automatically.

With more than one Word Writer window open, choosing File > Print could seem to do nothing: the print window opened on a window behind the one you were working in. It now always opens on the document you are looking at.

Saving in Word format is now free, and this update fixes several ways unsaved changes could be lost. • Saving documents as Word files (.docx and .doc) no longer requires Premium. Opening, editing and saving Word documents is free for everyone. Word Writer Premium now unlocks inserting tables and pictures. Tables that are already in your documents can still be edited as before. • After you had saved a document once, Word Writer stopped noticing further changes: closing the window or quitting no longer asked whether to save, and those changes could be lost. This has been the case since version 2.0. It now asks whenever there are unsaved changes. • Exporting a PDF or printing also made Word Writer treat the document as saved. It no longer does. • Opening another file while the current document had unsaved changes replaced it without asking. The file now opens in a new window. • Double-clicking a document in Finder did not open it. If Word Writer was already running, it also replaced the document you were working on with a blank one. Documents now open from Finder as they should. • Command-S could still fail with "Could not save" in a few cases, for example after using Save As and then opening the original file again, or when the file was also open in a minimized window. These are fixed. • Help > Send Feedback now opens a form right inside Word Writer instead of a web page. Fixes the crash that could still close Word Writer a few minutes after launch, and a "could not save" error. • Word Writer could still close unexpectedly, usually a few minutes after you started it and often right after switching back to it from another app. The previous update fixed one cause of this, but not the one most people were running into. When part of the document engine runs into this kind of problem now, Word Writer carries on and your document stays open. • Pressing Command-S could fail with "Could not save" if the same document had ended up open twice, for example after closing its window and opening the file again. Opening a document that is already open now brings its window to the front, and closing a window fully lets go of its document. • Printing works properly again. Printouts no longer pick up a page number, a long file name ending in .pdf and the date from a print setting the old version had saved, and pages print at their actual size instead of being shrunk by about 5%. Fixes the crash that has been closing Word Writer without warning since 2.0.2, and brings the document window back when you close it. • The app could disappear about a minute after launch, most often on Macs set to French. A background thread inside the document engine hit an unexpected condition while saving its own settings and, instead of ignoring it, took the whole app down with it. That thread now shrugs it off and your document stays open. • Closing the last window used to leave the app running with no way to get a window back: New, Open and clicking the Dock icon all did nothing. Any of them now opens a document window again, and the Window menu has a Show Document Window item (Command-0) that always works. • Fixed a crash that could happen if you closed the window, or started a new document, while a right-click menu was still on its way. This update is about steadiness. • The app no longer disappears without warning. One unexpected condition inside the document engine used to take the whole app down with it — and anything you had not saved went too. The engine now reports the problem and leaves your document open. • Settings lists every one of the 33 languages Word Writer is translated into. Only 11 could be picked by hand before; the rest worked, but only when they happened to match the language your Mac was already set to. • The upgrade window has been redesigned. Word Writer now speaks 33 languages — the menus, dialogs and this store page are all translated. Fixed in this update: • Inserting a second image into the same document did nothing. The first one worked; every one after it was silently dropped. • After inserting an image you could not keep typing — the keystrokes went nowhere. • Pasting an image no longer asks you to upgrade. Pressing ⌘V should bring in what you copied, not open a sales pitch. Inserting images from the menu and saving in Word formats are still the Premium features. This version also starts sending anonymous crash reports and usage counts — which features get used, how long a session lasted — so that a bug like the one above gets found by us rather than by you. Now available in 11 languages, and fixes a problem that kept version 1.6 from opening on some Macs. • The app is now translated into Arabic, Chinese (Simplified), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish, alongside English. Menus, dialogs and settings all follow your Mac's language. • Version 1.6 would not launch at all on macOS 10.13, or on 10.14.0 through 10.14.3. It failed before any window appeared, so there was nothing on screen to explain why. This release fixes that. • Now runs on macOS 10.11 or later, down from 10.13. • Fixed the document area being hard to read when macOS is set to Dark Mode. • Fixed a crash that could happen when pressing Delete just after an image at the end of a document. • Opening a document window is much faster. The font menu is now built the first time you open it, rather than every time a window appears. • Scrolling and redrawing long documents takes less work per page.
