PhonetiKey allows you to easily type IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) symbols for the English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Arabic and Russian languages.
It is *not* a program like our Phonetizer. It doesn't automatically convert regular text into its phonetic representation.
What PhonetiKey does is allows you to more quickly and easily enter IPA symbols for the supported languages via a regular keyboard that doesn't have phonetic symbols on its keys.
PhonetiKey a kind of a virtual keyboard that you see on the screen and type by clicking buttons with phonetic symbols on them.

need more info before purchasing!

Did I miss something? I am dismayed to see that there are only individual phonetic letters here. No diacritic marks, no combined letters written as diphthongs. For my purposes, a waste of money. Looks like a perfectly acceptable app for some uses, but really, there should be a better way of seeing what it has and how it works before buying!
Simple and useful

This is very helpful for my linguistics homework. Just to clarify, in light of some of the other reviews. This is NOT a keyboard for the Spanish alphabet or the Russian alphabet or whichever one you want. The IPA is a seperate alphabet used to transcribe the sounds of human language with a single corresponding symbol. It’s similar to the pronounciations you would find in a dictionary. If you don’t know what the IPA is, then you probably don’t need this app.
Just what I need!!

I have been going nuts trying to figure out how to type IPA on my Mac. I just downloaded this and it is exactly what I needed! I just type out what I want in the app, and then copy and paste it into a document to turn in for phonetics class. I can’t tell you how much time and frustration this app is saving me!
Would give this -5 stars if I could ...

Purchased this app for $4.99 (US) thinking that it would give me an easy way to use (insertinto docs) spanish alp[habetic characters for my spanish class. It does not, at all. The only one that I could get was the inverted ! key i An absolute waste of money, and I will be requesting a refund!
Now PhonetiKey supports Dark mode and is arm native on M1 powered computers.
