I like that htis app synchronized easily with the same app on my iPhone. I had to repeat the procedure a number of times before I got the verification. What was difficult to me is that different step, different instructions appeared on the Mac and the iPhone, so I wasn't always sure what to do first. I know this sounds "doppelgemoppelt" but I would suggest that the same instructions for both devices appear at the same time on both devices, then there's no confusion as to what to do next. Thanks.

I decided to leave a 5-star review because, well, this works as advertised. As an American, I can only say that I envy Germany for having an eID system and I’m honestly surprised by their ability in implementing this despite their affinity to paper.Anyways, out of all the German bureaucracy that I have to deal with, this part is honestly pretty alright and they should be commended on how well this works.

This works well as wireless NFC reader for a computer running the Mac or Windows version of Ausweisapp. Finally I can get rid of my clunky USB reader (which often had driver issues).

I have a German passport with the biometric chip but the app will not read it. The fact that the app also will not allow you to use other passports, such when one is a dual citizen of two countries, totally disqualifies this app. I had to go through a similar process with the UK, and the process was a breeze and their app was dream. Germany, you can do better.

Thank you for your Feedback! Only the German ID card, the electronic residence permit and the EU citizen card feature the online ID function which allows holders to identify themselves online. As with debit and credit cards, you will receive a letter with your PIN for the eID function after applying for the ID card. It contains an activation PIN, the PUK and a blocking code. If you have not received a letter after receiving your EU citizen card, please contact the competent authority.
