I had a previous comic reader that I was very happy with (Comic Zeal), but the developer stopped updating it and over the past several years it has slowly become more and more unusable. I have been searching for a good replacement for a long time and have tried pretty much every comic book reader in the App Store.I love this app. This is the first app that I have been happy with since Comic Zeal. I can really tell that the developer has put a lot of thought and care into the app. I also find that so many comic readers on the App Store are impossibly ugly, and Booklovers is thankfully very nicely designed and looks great.I have one complaint that makes me unable to use this app as my main comic reader. I still gave it 5 stars, because it deserves 5 stars, but it is very difficult to manage a large comic collection without folders. I appreciate tags, and the metadata functions and you can use tags and genres to make do, but I have a collection with thousands and thousands of comics and it’s very unwieldy without folders or some approximation of folders. PLEASE add some folder functionality so that people with tens of thousands of comics from many different series can keep everything more organized instead of having to scroll through what becomes an enormously long list of tags. Thank you! Great app.
Developer Response
Thank you so much for your great feedback, we really appreciate it..!We have been planning on features to manage series title and would like to release it as soon as it has got ready. For folders, although we have been attempting to offer a way to manage books with metadata instead of folders, we do understand that there are people who prefer to manage their books with folders and we are thinking of a way to respond to the demands. Please give us some time and hopefully we can offer some solution to meet your needs in a future version. Thanks again for your encouraging words!
Crash the application
Carl wave
Is there a limit on the amount of books that you can add? I had about 300 books in the system crashed. I still will give you 5 stars. This application is so complete. Amazing job👍🏻👍🏻I’m going to try again to reset and install it. Thank you. It will be nice to create a filter for genres and tags
Developer Response
[Update: Nov 19, 2025]> I had about 300 books in the system crashed.> Is there a limit on the amount of books that you can add? We’re sorry for the inconvenience. We don’t set any limit on how many books you can add to the library. (We hear some of our users have thousands of books - in practice, the limit is determined by physical constraints like the device’s available disk space and memory. If those constraints are exceeded, unexpected behavior may occur.)If the crash continues, one possibility is that one or some of the added book files may have an unexpected issue, such as data corruption, or perhaps a file with an extremely large size (although we haven’t encountered such cases before). Identifying and removing such a file may resolve the problem.Other than those possibilities, it’s unfortunately very difficult for us to identify the cause at this point. If the issue persists, please contact us at booklover@plastic-software.com . With more details from you, we’ll do our best to identify the cause and suggest possible solutions. Thank you.--------Thank you for using Booklover, and we’re sorry for the inconvenience.Could you let us know where or in what situation the crash occurred? We haven’t received any notable crash reports for the current version (3.6.0 as of Nov 15) and couldn’t reproduce the issue on our side, so we unfortunately don’t have enough information to identify the cause. If you could share more details with us at booklover@plastic-software.com , we’d really appreciate it. Thanks again for your help and support.
Great App, One Feature Missing
SamMir21
I’ve been really impressed with the Booklover app. It’s simple to use and helps me keep track of all my books effortlessly. One thing I’d love to see added is a page flip animation—it would make browsing through my collection feel even more like reading a real book!
Developer Response
Thank you so much for your encouraging words about the app. A page flip animation is certainly one of the many things we’d like to deliver eventually. We’ll keep working to improve the app steadily, step by step. We would really appreciate your support and understanding!
Great app, few issues
johnnydeathray
Best app for a big libraries but small physical storage space—allows one to download the particular books one wants while keeping others in the cloud.I wish there was a dark mode, and I wish that custom metadata synced between devices. I also wish you could nest tags. But otherwise this app is great, and perfect for me.
Developer Response
Thank you so much for your great feedback! - For dark mode: We would like to consider implementing it after checking out whether Apple announces system-level dark mode in the next version of iOS :) - For metadata sync, It is definitely in our roadmap, however it will be probably after we've added a few other major features.- For nesting tags - Very interesting idea! We would be really grateful if you could give an elaborated idea to us at booklover@plastic-software.com if it's not too much trouble - Thanks again!
This version addresses a rendering issue in the reader view and introduces some usability improvements.
Fixes
• [Reader View] Mitigated small gaps that might be shown at the edge of the pages when magnifying content with small logical sizes
Improvements
• [Library] Selections for books are preserved after making editing actions for selected books, so that another editing action can be made successively
• Other miscellaneous user experience improvements
Others
• As previously announced, the in-app "User Authentication" feature has been removed. Please use the operating system's built-in “Lock or Hide Apps” feature instead of Booklover’s user authentication.
• Starting with new installations of this version (3.7.0), “Give My Regards to Black Jack” is no longer provided within the Booklover app. For users updating from versions prior to 3.7.0, availability will also be discontinued in the next release. Please download it from the official website of the author Shuho Sato at https://densho810.com/free/ .
