Hi. I have been using this app for like, a few months. I currently have maybe a month long streak. I looove it. To start, the concepts are actually explained to you from the start. It doesn’t leave you to figure things out like other apps do. You can always revisit them when you’re confused. The vocabulary library is very helpful. You can study things by category or search through anything you’ve already been taught. That goes for concepts and stories as well, not just words. The exercises are unique to what you’re studying. You learn concepts in their respective contexts and sentences, you learn vocabulary in spelling and flash cards, the method of learning actually matches what you’re being taught! It’s been very helpful to me. The stories and listening exercises are very useful. People don’t realize that you won’t learn much if you don’t actually take the time to read and understand what’s being spoken about, it won’t be as easy to understand things situationally. It’s very helpful although sometimes a little difficult. I heavily recommend just buying the subscription. I got the yearly which totals out to like $8 a month maybe. Idk. It’s less than my music app so what’s the fuss? All of the features you get out of it pay off big time. I definitely recommend using this app as a main building block and other apps, books and music on top of it to just keep that practice going. You rly can’t go wrong with this app!

Other apps feel like paid applications with free features, this feels like a free application with paid supplemental studying material options. The free course materials feel like the equivalent of taking a Spanish 1 course in school so far, it’s awesome. And I can add on a second course dedicated solely to verb conjugation at the same time—something I usually have to work hard to keep up with via flashcards on the side when using other apps like Duolingo. The interface is focused and purposeful, without the distracting gamified qualities other apps have, but not so bogged down in text that it feels like a textbook. I especially love the ability to mark your preference for learning the Spanish spoken in Mexico vs in Spain. It doesn’t get more specific than those countries, but it’s hugely helpful for the area I live in and the people I want to talk to in creating a cohesive sound for me instead of mixed slang and vocab and conjugations from typical U.S. classroom Spanish (Spain) combined with daily conversational Spanish I encounter (Mexico, LatAm). Even with marking the Mexico preference, for each word I am still able to see the Spain equivalent for reference as well. Review materials for lessons already completed are available in different formats for free too—audio summary with pauses for you to come up with the answers, interactive quizzes, or quick reading. Paid review features are things like a PDF export of the lesson, which I don’t need at this time, but could become useful in the future. I love this app!! I will write more reviews in the future as I get into higher level lessons to see if those keep up a similar feel.

I sneak away to learn with this app constantly. Although I studied Spanish for several years at the university, and studied abroad in Ecuador, I lacked practice--and lost the ear for Spanish. Since I'm headed to Spain in two years I wanted an app that wouldn't just spout vocabulary in a drill and kill mentality, but would train my ear while expanding my grammar. I want to KNOW Spanish. I'm certainly nothing close to what I desire, but WLingua is helping me get there! I'm charmed by the varied exercises and their diverse approaches that tap into different learning styles. They're short enough to engage but long enough to drive home each new theme. Saying that, I do have a few suggestions. For one, the progress report tells me I've learned 0 vocabulary even though I do all the work. What vocabulary am I missing? What haven't I learned? It won't tell me or give any instructions on how to find out. Plus they lure you into the Premium mode without alerting you that you've entered the paid subscription phase. They prime you with several hours/days of "free" premium access based on your points. Smart approach, actually, but I wish they'd alerted me up front about the Premium migration. Nevertheless, I am enamored with this app, and plan on getting a year of paid learning. Certainly beats the price of other programs and university classrooms!

I definitely recommend the Wlingua app to learn SPANISH (or English, French, German, Italian, Russian). I agree that it truly TEACHES the user. There are options to focus on conversation, writing, readingI or all of the above. There is a proper CURRICULUM that integrates audio/visual learning. There is the ability to touch any word to hear the pronunciation and see translation notes - for varying regions when applicable! (No way …Yes way) Hyperlink from a word to original lesson notes for quick reference! (No way … YES way!) In addition to the ability to customize this app to match your learning style it has smart features to encourage your consistent engagement. For example, you can get an estimated course completion date based on your study schedule! I find that cool. In summary, this app is better than the Intro course Il took at Rice University (and I love RiceU). Affordable too, for such an efficient, well programmed app. Again, absolutely Brilliant!
