Lost Commander is a keyboard-first, dual-pane file manager for macOS. Copy, move, compare and sync folders; search names and file contents; find duplicates; preview files; and browse archives without leaving the app. Everything works locally. No account, analytics or subscription. TWO PANES OR A TREE Keep two folders side by side for quick transfers and comparisons, or turn a pane into a directory tree and navigate your disk with the keyboard. SEARCH, COMPARE AND CLEAN UP Search by name or inside files. Find duplicates and see how much space they use. Compare two files line by line or two folders side by side. PREVIEW WITHOUT LEAVING Read text with automatic encoding detection, render Markdown, view images, or inspect and edit hexadecimal data. The text editor warns before saving characters the selected encoding cannot represent. ARCHIVES AS FOLDERS Open ZIP and TAR archives like ordinary folders. Copy items out to extract them. Archive passwords are never stored. TAGS ACROSS FOLDERS Tag files in multiple locations, then act on the complete set at once. See the total file count, size, and original folder for every tagged item. KEYBOARD-FIRST, YOUR WAY Every command has a key and every shortcut can be changed. Start with function-key or letter-based controls, open the complete key table with F1, or search commands from the palette. SAFE, REVERSIBLE OPERATIONS Copies are completed beside their destination and replaced only when ready, protecting existing files if a transfer is cancelled or the disk fills. Review operation history and undo supported actions. WORKSPACES Save multiple layouts, each with its own folders, panes, and views, and restore them next launch. Customize colour schemes, pin favourite places, and reopen recent folders. FREE, WITH ONE OPTIONAL PURCHASE Every feature is available free. An optional one-time purchase removes the startup message and supports continued development. Nothing expires. MAC APP STORE PERMISSION Lost Commander uses Apple’s sandbox. On first launch, select the folder it may manage. Choose Macintosh HD if you want to grant access to the whole disk.
