So much better than the Apple Reminders app
I'm an Apple fan to the core, but the Microsoft To Do app simply outdoes Apple Reminders in almost every aspect of UI and UX. The only place where Reminders is better is the font size/type and readability. The font size/type in Microsoft To Do are just a little too small compared to the Reminders app.
But that's the only area where Microsoft To Do isn't better. The My Day functionality is so much better than any other To Do app's attempt...they're not even close. With this app you can "easily" move any task from any list to My Day with a single tap. In other list apps and To Do apps, it takes a combination of several things in a cluttered UX to do this. This is the absolute single best function of the app, though all the others are good, too.
I honestly would rather use Apple apps when possible, but sometimes you have to forget about who made an app and choose it for the usability. With Apple Reminders you can't even print out a list without doing a bunch of copy/paste actions. Another case of "Apple knows best" and if a millions users sent feedback on this (and they probably have) it still wouldn't be incorporated.
Great App for GTD Method
Best app I have found for use with the GTD method. I originally used Wunderlist and it was great. But this one is getting the latest and greatest updates that allow it to work much better with ios shortcuts so you can program your iphone so that you can add a task to a specific list by voice on the go without even looking at your phone. If you do GTD, you know that getting ideas out of your head and into the right list is key and to be able to do that while driving or as your walking to a meeting is a real improvement. Also, every one of my direct reports uses it (because I asked them to) and that allows them and me to have a shared running list of tasks that I have delegated to them that we can keep tabs on, share comments with each other, etc. And since it's all in To Do, that means that I can take tasks that were on my lists and simply drag and drop them into their list whenever I choose to delegate one of those tasks.
A shabby substitute for Wunderlist
I've been using Wumderlist for years and have absolutely loved that product. So, while I'm happy for the team that they were aquired by Microsoft, I am really frustrated with the feature set of MS To Do as compared to Wunderlist. For example, Wunderlist let you type in a task with a bulit in reminder. (e.g. Set up a call with client x at 11:00am) and it would show the task as "Set up call with Client X" with a reminder attatched to that task which would trigger at your specified time. With MS To Do you it will ignore any time parameters you input as text. You have to go into a separate screen and set up a reminder manually. That's stupidly inefficient for an efficiency-focussed app. MS task also doesn't seem to remove completed items like wonderlist did, so your lists become cluttered and hard to parse. And, the reminders, when they are set, often get stuck in a recursive loop and cannot be dismissed without force quitting the app. Initially I thought MS bought Wunderlist to invest in it and make it better. But it's clear, they just wanted to kill a great little competetor to release their own garbage version. I am so disappointed. Clearly I need to find something else. RIP Wunderlist. You were truly a great little product and I miss you terribly.
