worked on High Sierra but doesn't on Mojave
Developer Response ,
sorry, I've been so busy lately,
but I've finally uploaded a Mojave compatible build.
it should be available soon
I was looking for an extension that would allow me to block annoying videos that would automatically play in the background on news sites but I didn’t want to go through the hassle of having to whitelist all the websites where I don’t want videos and images to be blocked. What makes this extension great is that you can choose to use the blacklist feature instead of the whitelist feature by unchecking “Block all sites except those on whitelist” in the preferences of the app. It’s exactly what I’ve needed. I’m running High Sierra so I can’t confirm if this works well on Mojave or Catalina but other than that, this has been useful.
Good but not that easy to use and it feels unfinished.
I like the IDEA of this app (what it SAYS it does) and have not found any others that claim to give the user this much control over what is downloaded. I wish it worked....it doesn't work at all for me on Catalina.
After seeing the developer response to my initial review I decided to reinstall, re-test and update my 3-star rating and review. I have revised it to 1 star. The reason? The app does not work.
The wording within the app is so vague and confusing, it took me a half hour to test the app thoroughly in Block Mode. I have tried every possible setting and this app will not let pictures through at all, even if a website is set to allow everything through.
And context menus? Really? You can forget trying to right click on a picture (or any content for that matter) to allow it. The only context menus are to add or remove the current website from the list or completely pause the app. But that add / remove menu does absolutely nothing, even after manually refreshing the page.
After adjusting the settings every which way using either the browser toolbar button or the complete app, I was only able to achieve 2 different settings: either get a “cannot load this page” message or an unformatted text-only webpage, stripped of all of the font formatting, pictures and media. I was not able to view any website normally with this app enabled, whether it was on the Block mode Exception list or not. That’s completely useless - an app that blocks all formatting and media on everything? At least the developer got the pause/disable function right: you can hit the pause button in the toolbar button applet or the context menu to make things work as if the app and extension are uninstalled. That’s only useful as a troubleshooting tool though.
I have wasted so much time on retrying this app that no matter what the developer says I will never use this app. A developer wasting my time like this, releasing useless untested garbage and then claiming I missed something and should try it again is plain disrespectful. Developer: get your act together, test your software before you release it and don’t boast about your half-baked context menu that operates nothing like the content blockers everybody is used to. If you want to make a content blocker that goes a step further than the big boys’ content blockers you need to first be able to build a decent regular content blocker. Go back to school learn some things and then do the work properly before releasing an app to the App Store. This app is a joke.
Developer Response ,
You can use the contextual menu in Safari to add exceptions. Also, the main app doesn’t need to be running for Minim to work.
