MinkNote is a native Mac app for writing, organising information and building your knowledge over time.
Write a journal. Plan a project. Capture meeting notes. Organise research. Collect ideas, reference material or code snippets. MinkNote gives everything a clear structure without making you build a complicated system first.
And underneath it all, your writing remains yours: ordinary Markdown files stored on your Mac, with no account, proprietary database or lock-in.
WRITE. ORGANISE. BUILD KNOWLEDGE.
- Write naturally with rich text or Markdown
- Organise your work into projects, journals and folders

You don't need to know Markdown. Use the formatting toolbar for headings, lists, links, bold text and more, and MinkNote handles the Markdown for you. If you do know Markdown, you can edit it directly for more precise control.

Fast, quiet, and your notes stay plain files
plainfilesfan
MinkNote does one thing well: a fast, keyboard-first place to write in Markdown, with your notes kept as plain files in your own folder. No account, no sync service, no database. The three-pane layout feels like Mail, it opens instantly, and I never had to think about where my text actually lives. What I’d like to see next: wiki-style links between notes, and search results that jump to the exact match in the note. Both feel close to the spirit of the app.If you want a Markdown journal that stays out of your way and leaves your files alone, this is a good one.
Developer Response
Thanks for the thoughtful review and feedback!MinkNote already supports links between notes, although the interface works a little differently from the [[ syntax you mentioned. Press ⌘K to open the note-linking dialog, where you can search and autocomplete note titles.I completely agree about search results jumping directly to the matching text. It’s high on the roadmap and something I’m keen to improve. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience!
