Any MIDI keyboard in, MPE out. Every note gets its own motion in pitch, pressure, timbre and pan, generated while it sounds. A MIDI FX for Logic Pro, and an app. MPE Drift gives every note you play a motion of its own. You play any MIDI keyboard, and MPE Drift turns it into an MPE stream: each note runs on its own channel and gets its own movement in pitch, pressure, timbre and pan. Your MPE instrument turns that movement into sound. The motion is made by MPE Drift, not by your hand, and your own pitch wheel and aftertouch still pass through to the instrument as before. MPE Drift is a MIDI effect: MIDI goes in, MIDI comes out, and no audio is touched. In Logic Pro it sits in a track's MIDI FX slot, ahead of an MPE capable instrument such as Alchemy in MPE mode. The MPE Drift app runs the same plugin without a DAW. Pick a MIDI input and output, or send to the virtual output "MPE Drift", which any other app on your Mac can use as a MIDI source. LANES • Five lanes per note, each with its own target, shape, depth and speed • Targets: pitch bend, pressure, or any continuous MIDI controller from CC0 to CC119, including brightness (CC74) and pan (CC10) • Nine shapes: Drift, Sine, Triangle, Saw Up, Saw Down, Square, S&H Random, Static and Custom • Custom is a curve you draw yourself, with up to 32 points per cycle • Speed from 0.02 to 25 Hz, or synced to the host tempo from four bars down to 1/64, dotted and triplet values included • Modes decide how the notes of a chord move against each other: Chaos, Parallel, Orbit and Split • A mode can be set for all lanes together or for each lane on its own • Intensity scales the depth of every lane with a single knob • Follow lets the motion respond to your own playing NOTES • Extra voices one or two octaves above and below every note you play • Play a whole chord from a single key, with strum up or down • Scale lock, bend quantize and note spread • Velocity and timing can vary slightly, so the playing feels more natural ARPEGGIATOR • Up, Down, Up & Down, Random, As Played or Chord • One to four octaves, with Latch • Free at its own tempo or synced to the host clock • Ratchet, gate and shuffle • Every step creates new voices, so each hit gets its own detune, phase, velocity and timing OUTPUT & HOST • Bend range up to ±48 semitones • Send MPE Setup tells the receiving instrument what to expect • A seed makes the random motion repeatable: the same take sounds the same every time with the same seed • 92 parameters can be automated in the host, including a lane's target and shape • 25 factory presets in five groups, plus as many of your own as you like • The plugin window follows Logic's view sizes from 50 to 200 % THE LIVE MPE FIELD Every voice MPE Drift creates is drawn while you play. Depending on the view you see the voices as flowing curves, as level bars per channel, as note names with drift nodes, or as a separate band for each lane. Change a setting and you see right away how the motion changes. WHAT YOU NEED After MPE Drift you need an MPE capable instrument, for example a synth in MPE mode or a track set up for it. Any MIDI keyboard will do as the input. With an MPE controller your own expression is kept, and MPE Drift lays its motion on top of your playing. MPE Drift is the DRIFT module from MPE Insight as a plugin of its own. Both use the same engine and the same presets, and each works without the other.
