Notepad Classic is a fast, private plain-text editor for macOS. No rich-text WYSIWYG. No AI rewrite. No accounts. No cloud sync required. Just text—open it, type it, and trust it will still be there next time. Markdown and HTML can show an optional preview; the source stays plain text. WHY NOT TEXTEDIT? TextEdit is fine for light work. Notepad Classic is built for people who want a true notepad: multiple tabs, session restore that includes unsaved buffers, encoding control, and nothing that phones home unless you allow remote images or CSS in a preview tab. PRIVATE BY DESIGN • Fully sandboxed • No network unless you allow remote images or CSS in a Markdown or HTML preview tab • No ads, no tracking, no analytics SDK • Your files stay on your Mac SESSION RESTORE Quit with tabs open—including notes you never saved—and they come back after relaunch or reboot. Choose in Settings: continue previous session or start fresh. TABS THAT STAY OUT OF THE WAY Several documents in one window. Drag to reorder, Ctrl-Tab to cycle, asterisk (*) on unsaved tabs. SPELL CHECK (LOCAL) System dictionary spell check (on by default). Optional autocorrect. Turn checking off for code/log extensions. No cloud AI. PREVIEW (OPTIONAL) Side or full-screen preview for .md and .html. Scripts never run. Remote images and stylesheets load only after you allow them for that tab. Open the file in your default browser when you want the real thing. ENCODINGS THAT DON’T GUESS WRONG Open and save UTF-8, UTF-8 with BOM, EUC-KR, and UTF-16 (LE/BE). Reopen or convert from the status bar, with a clear warning if characters can’t be represented. Hangul and other CJK input commits safely mid-composition.
