Okato is a live transcription and translation studio for your Mac. It listens to anything playing on your machine, writes it down in 30 languages and translates it in real time. Everything happens on your Mac, so it works entirely offline.
Use it live, or drop in a video or audio file. Okato syncs and captions it in the language you choose, then lets you watch it back or export it in the format you need.
LIVE SUBTITLES OVER ANYTHING Watch a foreign film, join an international call or sit in on a lecture, with live subtitles floating over the top. The overlay works over any app, even in full screen. It's click-through, so it never steals your cursor, and you choose its position, size and opacity.
THE NOTEPAD Prefer to read along? The floating notepad keeps a scrolling record of everything said, so you can look back at the line you missed without stopping the conversation.
TRANSLATION, LINE BY LINE See the original language with the translation right beneath it. Hover over a word to highlight it. It's perfect for following a meeting, studying a lecture or learning a language as you listen.
FAST MODE Turn on Fast mode and translation keeps pace with the speaker. It's lightning quick for European languages, so the subtitles land as the words are spoken.
ANY SOURCE ON YOUR MAC Transcribe your microphone, a single app or all of your system audio. Zoom, FaceTime, Safari, YouTube, podcasts: if your Mac can play it, Okato can caption it. Transcribe and translate a meeting while music keeps playing in the next window.
FILE MODE AND THEATRE Drop in a film, a recorded interview or a voice memo. Okato takes its most accurate pass, capturing every word and every speaker, synchronised to the picture. Then open Theatre, go full screen and watch it with subtitles in your language.
WHO SAID WHAT Speaker separation labels every line, so meetings, interviews and podcasts read like a script rather than a wall of text.
EXPORT ANYTHING Take your transcript out as Markdown, plain text or PDF, or as SRT and VTT subtitle files ready for any video player or editor. You can even export a new video with the subtitles burned in, ready to share.
