PL2303 Serial Driver is a system extension provides the capability to access Prolific's low cost and high performance USB-to-Serial Bridge Controller. Prolific provides a convenient small-factor solution for connecting an RS232-like full-duplex asynchronous serial device to any USB host. And, provides highly compatible drivers that could simulate the traditional COM port on most operating systems allowing the existing applications based on COM port to easily migrate and be made USB ready.

I tried a bunch of different methods on MacOS 14.4.1 to get the PL2303 driver working for a console cable in Minicom. This was not only the most straightforward, but also the only one that worked. Everything else required reboots or weird things to try and get system extensions working, including reducing security settings, and I never ended up having luck. This on the other hand was perfect. Install from the App store, maybe reboot, and then good to go.

Kernel extensions and system extensions have been hard on the Mac, and if you have a previous version of the driver, you need to uninstall it or this one won't work.However, if you have a PL2303 device, just install this app and run it. You'll be asked to update the system extension cache, and may have to reboot. Then just plug in the adapter, and away you go.
