PlainReader: Parallel Reading
Your bookshelf, kept simple
$6.99
Read several books side by side — each keeps its place, bookmarks, and notes. A bookshelf that stays in order by itself, with the family's full reading engine.
PlainReader is a native reader for Mac, iPad, and iPhone, built for people who read several books at once — a technical manual beside a novel beside a textbook — and want keeping them in order to take no effort at all.
One picture explains it: JustReader is the book on your nightstand, ContinuousReader is the library — and PlainReader is the bookshelf between them.
EVERY BOOK HAS ITS OWN PLACE
Up to 25 independent places, each holding one book with its own position. Switch with a tap: a side list on Mac and iPad, tabs on iPhone. When you finish a book, close it, and its place is free for the next one.
THE APP REMEMBERS WHAT MATTERS
Positions, bookmarks, notes, colors, and reading history belong to the book itself, not to the place — bring the same book back a month later and everything is where you left it. A history of your last 25 books reopens any of them exactly where you stopped.
A READING EXPERIENCE YOU CONTROL
The same reading engine as our ContinuousReader: EPUB, FB2, MOBI, HTML, TXT, RTF and their ZIP variants; nine typefaces and 41 themes across five palettes plus Typewriter and Terminal; continuous scroll, paged, or two-page spread; real hyphenation in Latin, Cyrillic, CJK, Arabic, and Greek; Read Aloud with word-by-word highlighting; on-device translation; full reading statistics.
BOOKS FROM ANYWHERE
Import by file, link, or drag and drop — or browse OPDS catalogs (Standard Ebooks, Project Gutenberg, Feedbooks, or your own) with per-catalog shortcuts.
A BOOKSHELF, NOT A LIBRARY
Managing your shelf is as simple as it gets: drag to reorder, color-code a book, close one and its place frees up. For a full library — folders, collection-wide search, iCloud sync, mass import, hundreds of books — there is our ContinuousReader; for a single book on the nightstand there is our free JustReader. PlainReader is the shelf between them.
PRIVATE BY DEFAULT
No analytics, no telemetry, no tracking, no ads. Your books stay on your device.
No subscriptions and no in-app purchases. Universal Purchase: one price covers Mac, iPad, and iPhone. Family Sharing supported.

• A shelf with dividers: give a category a name and a colour, drag books into it, fold it, filter the whole shelf — up to 999 books
• The shelf at the side of the book on the Mac and the iPad, or as the home page; covers in the rows, progress as a bar, a number or a ring
• Select several books at once: move, recolour or remove them together; import several files in one go with duplicates marked
• Control from the keyboard: arrows, Space, Return, ⌘↑/⌘↓; File menu commands and a Shortcuts tab
• Panels go where you put them: bookmarks, notes, search, translation, chapters and pictures dock to any edge, float, or hide — with ready-made layouts
• iPhone: full-screen reading with active corners, sheets for navigation and settings, and a selection mode of its own
• Feature themes at night, more ways to style the page, quick settings with named sections
