Never miss a conversation worth keeping. RecordCue spots the call, cues you at the right moment, captures both sides or your screen, and turns it into text—on your Mac.

It never starts on its own. Every recording begins with a press, and if you
ignore the cue it goes away and no recording file is created.
IT NOTICES THE CALLS YOU CARE ABOUT
RecordCue watches which application has opened the microphone. Dozens of
services are built in — video meetings, team chat, messaging apps — and the
cue names the one it found, so there is no question what you are about to
record. Anything missing you can add yourself, by application or by window
title.
Choose which services can cue, exclude anything that should never interrupt
you, and add your own rules for any app or browser call. Choose a floating
on-screen cue, a macOS notification, a sound, and how long RecordCue should
wait before cueing again.
When the call ends, it asks: stop and save, or keep going. Nothing is left
running for an hour after everyone has hung up.
BOTH SIDES, ONE FILE
Your microphone and the audio your Mac is playing, mixed as it records.
Headphones change nothing — the other side is taken from the audio itself, not
from a speaker. Or record just your own voice, or just theirs.
Record the screen with it when you want the slides too: the whole display, a
single window, or an area you drag. Audio-only recordings are small enough to
keep forever; a screen recording can have its audio pulled out afterwards into
a file a twentieth of the size.
IT WRITES DOWN WHO SAID WHAT
Enable automatic transcription, or transcribe any finished recording later.
RecordCue uses the speech recognition built into macOS and marks each passage
with which side was speaking — your microphone, the other end, or both talking
at once. The transcript is a plain text file saved next to the recording, with
timestamps, ready to search or paste into your notes.
Recognition is forced to run on the device. No audio is uploaded, to Apple or
to anyone else.
NAMED AND FILED
Recordings are named with the date, the service and the call, and go into a
folder per service. Nothing to rename, nothing to sort, and the meeting from
three weeks ago is where you would look for it.
YOUR TOOLS CAN READ IT
A small read-only command ships inside the app. It prints what RecordCue
knows about a finished recording as JSON — where the file is, when it was
made, which call it was, how long it ran, which side was speaking, and where
the transcript is. Claude Code, Codex, a shell script, a watch folder:
anything that can run a command can find a recording without being handed a
path.
RecordCue itself adds no AI. It summarises nothing, uploads nothing, and
holds no account and no API key. What your own tools do with the file is
between you and them.
NOTHING LEAVES YOUR MAC
There is no account and no server. RecordCue makes no network requests of its
own — no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting. Recordings, transcripts
and settings stay on the Mac.
FREE, AND WHAT IS PAID FOR
The first fourteen days are unlimited. After that, everything still works
free, for ten minutes at a time: detection, the cue, every recording mode,
transcription and filing. A single in-app purchase removes the ten-minute
limit and changes nothing else. It is bought once, not by subscription, and
it belongs to your Apple Account — every Mac you sign in to has it.
BEFORE YOU RECORD SOMEBODY
Whether you may record a conversation depends on where everyone in it is. In
many places you must tell the other people, and in some you need their
agreement. RecordCue cannot know this and does not decide it for you. Ask
first.

Permission setup now uses neutral Continue buttons and explicit skip options. Skipping notifications no longer leads to an automatic permission request on a later launch.
This update improves recording, meeting detection and transcript reliability.
• Known meeting apps are detected even when a browser window scan is unavailable. Browser detection retries when a meeting title appears after microphone activity begins.
• Pending transcripts resume after restarting RecordCue. Transcript status and unrecognised passages are easier to check.
• Recording write failures are reported, and interrupted files can be located from the menu.
• The local CLI excludes recordings still being written and handles renamed recording files more reliably.
• Settings → Activity keeps bounded local diagnostic history across launches and lets you copy or clear it.
Recordings and transcripts stay on your Mac. Diagnostic history is stored locally and is never uploaded automatically.
