Edit by reading. Preview the video. Export a rough cut to Final Cut Pro or MP4. ScriptBlade is a macOS editing tool for creating fast rough cuts from SRT files, video previews, and local Whisper transcription. Start by importing an SRT file, or generate one locally from a video or audio file using Whisper. Once the transcript is ready, import your source media and preview the video directly inside ScriptBlade. Click any SRT block to jump to the matching moment in the video, then mark each section as Keep or Drop. As you edit, the Original and Edited timelines show how your full video is being shaped. You can see which parts remain, which parts are removed, and how long the edited version will be. For longer or awkwardly timed subtitle blocks, use split and merge tools to create cleaner editing units. When word timing is available from Whisper, ScriptBlade can split blocks more precisely around the actual spoken words. After the first pass, you can export your edit as FCPXML for Final Cut Pro, or render it directly as an MP4 video. If you need finer control after the SRT-based edit, open the Manual Trim window to adjust the actual video clips independently from the SRT timing, then export the refined result as MP4. ScriptBlade also supports FCPXML reference workflows for single clips, synchronized clips, multicam clips, compound clips, and multitrack timelines. For the most reliable Final Cut Pro workflow, export a clean reference timeline XML before applying complex finishing effects. Color corrections, audio effects, third-party effects, adjustment layers, compound clip filters, custom roles, complex audio configurations, and multicam angle effects may not be fully preserved when ScriptBlade generates a new SRT-based rough cut XML. In general, use ScriptBlade to create the rough cut first, then finish color, audio, effects, and final polish in Final Cut Pro. ScriptBlade is especially useful for interviews, lectures, YouTube videos, documentaries, research footage, and other dialogue-heavy editing workflows.
