Sound Touch 4+

My son is hard of hearing and has some vision impairment. He loves to listen to the sounds and look at all of the animals. I was happy to learn the new update now has sight words added to the pictures.

I do think that the color of the words, the greyish background and font style needs to be re-considered for a young person learning to read AS WELL as a child who is visually impaired. The font style needs to be a standard font used in textbooks, a larger size and needs to have a enough contrast between it and it's background color to be read. I understand that you didn't want to cover the pictures with the words, but the word box is too 'visually crowded' to be read easliy. If you squint while trying to read it you will see what I mean. The strokes in the font are also too close together. Otherwise I love this app.

***back again! Thank you so much for adjusting the font style! It is so much better now. I also agree with a couple of the therapists who commented about adding a sound identification feature to be used in Audio Visual Therapy. Kids and adults with cochlear implants as well as kids with hearing loss would benefit by having an option to either choose from a few pictures to tell what sound is being played or even just having a way for the voice/text identifier to be delayed to allow for a guess. Good work!

By far the best toddler entertainer I've found in the app store. Other apps often only have common farm animals or jungle animals - and rarely both in the same app. This one adds vehicular sounds and music instruments. But it doesn't stop there - each entry, such as the Dog, has more than one dog sound & image. I *REALLY* appreciate the multiple sounds and photography, as it helps toddlers learn what is what even though it sounds or looks a little different. My toddler is 15 months right now and has a vocabulary of over 30 words, mostly animals because she's been obsessed with animals since her birthday. How could the app be better? I have but two requests: 1) Add more content. 2) Put a delay on the 2nd tap canceling the sound - my toddler likes to tap the screen repeatedly which causes the sound/photograph to start and immediately disappear. I'm teaching her to tap just once, but a delay would be helpful when she gets excited.

This app has many great features for kids with disabilities. It helps kids relate a cartoon character with a real picture. Also a single touch advances the screen. You can touch anywhere and not be taken out of the app by mistake. You can't go wrong! My teenage daughter has both physical and cognitive delays, but apps that she is physically able to activate are made for children much younger (usually less than 9 months old). These apps can be very repetitive and not hold her attention. This app is not at all repetitive and therefore holds her attention, especially the musical instrument portion. Great variety of musical genre!

The only drawback is that she touches what she wants multiple times. This does cause the sound to start over with each touch. It would be helpful if there were an option to stop multiple touches from restarting the response each time. I also agree with an earlier review that it would be nice to have the category buttons at the top so they aren't bumped while reaching for another picture. It would also be nice to have a quiz option to allow it to be turned into a game. But despite these things, this is one of the best apps I have seen for kids with disabilities (and for kids without disabilities).
