SwitchGlass adds a dedicated application switcher to your Mac. You can customize its appearance, size, and position on each attached display, including hiding it on selected displays. Use it to bring one or all of an app’s windows to the front, or as a drag-and-drop target to open files.
The following app switcher attributes can be customized individually for each attached display:
• Visibility - Permanently hide, show, or auto-hide the app switcher. Auto-hide keeps the app switcher hidden until the mouse cursor touches the region of the screen edge where the app switcher is positioned.
• Position - Move the app switcher to one of eight different positions on each screen.
• Orientation - Make the app switcher horizontal or vertical in a given position.
• Material - Change the appearance of the app switcher background to one of several possible choices (see screenshot above) including a mode where it automatically matches the system appearance (e.g, dark when dark mode is active, light otherwise).
• Corner Style and Radius - Choose from three corner styles: square, circle, or “squircle” (a “continuous” rounded corner style). The corner radius can also be adjusted.
• Icon Size - Adjust the size of app icons in the switcher from 16 to 256 points.
• Icon Padding - Adjust the padding between icons from 0% to 100% of the configured icon size.
• Margin - Adjust the amount of space around the app switcher.
• Hide on Dock conflict - Hide the app switcher when the macOS Dock occupies the same screen edge.
• App Sort Order - Sort apps by name or launch order, descending or ascending.
App order can also be customized for individual apps by setting fixed positions starting from either end of the app switcher.
Additionally, the following global settings may be customized:
• App Filtering - Show all apps or just those with windows on the current display.
• Menu Bar Icon - Choose from three possible menu bar icons.
• App Exclusions - Select apps that should never appear in the app switcher.
• Animation - Show animations during app state transitions.
• Tooltips - Show the app name when the pointer hovers over an app icon.
Here’s how the app switcher works in its default configuration:
• Click an app icon to bring all windows from that app to the front.
• Hold down the Shift key while clicking an app icon to bring just one window from that app to the front.
• Hold down the Option key while clicking an app icon to hide the current app before bringing the clicked app to the front. (Option-clicking the currently active app will hide it.)
• Hold down the Option and Shift keys while clicking an app icon to hide the current app before bringing just one window from the clicked app to the front. (Option-Shift-clicking the currently active app will hide it.)
• Right-click (or Control-click) an app icon to activate a context menu from which you can perform any of the supported actions (described below).
• Drag one or more files or folders onto an app icon to open those items with the app.
• Hold down the Command key while clicking on an app icon to reveal the app in the Finder.
The click and Shift-click actions are configurable. Each may be set to any one of these actions:
• Show All Windows - Activate an app and bring all its window to the front.
• Activate - Activate an app and bring a single window to the front.
• Reopen - Activate an app in a way that triggers its “reopen” handler. Apps can choose to do whatever they want in response to a “reopen” action, but most bring a single window to the front, opening a new window (or un-minimizing a window from the Dock) if none are open.
• Reopen and Show All - This is the same as “Reopen” except that SwitchGlass will also bring all the app’s windows to the front after sending the “reopen” action.
• Hide - Hide all windows belonging to an app.

Nearly Perfect

I have a multiple monitor setup, and always hated that the dock was only visible on one screen at a time. I've been using SwitchGlass for the past week as a near-complete replacement for the dock, so that I can show icons for the active applications on each monitor (while the real dock is set to auto-hide on the side). It wasn't designed for this use case, but with the right tweaks in the settings, it can get SO CLOSE to nailing it perfectly. (Change the "App Click" option to "Reopen" and enable "Show tooltips".)All that's left to do is show which apps are hidden, and maybe the Trash icon too.
Multi Monitor users should love this.

In my particular setup, I have 2 monitors with the menubar on the right monitor and the dock oriented vertically on the right side of that monitor. That's just what works for me. I love this app because I can select to hide it on my right monitor and place it horizontally at the top right of my left monitor so it's almost like I have an extension of the Menubar extending onto the left monitor. This places the App Switcher relatively central to my work space and saves me from having to mouse across two monitors to my right handed dock. It's easy to adjust the size and color to match the menubar so it just looks like it's part of the Menubar interface. I love it! Yes this is a highly niche little app, but if you have a use case for it, it's definitely valuable.
A Very Useful Tool

I use multiple monitors and have way too many apps that I use for work constantly. My dock minimizes automatically and there are so many apps on my dock it was always a pain trying to find the ones that I have open. ⌘ + Tab also can be a pain when you have so many windows and apps running at the same time. SwitchGlass has given me a reliable tool that is in the same place that ONLY shows me the apps I am using and it works flawlessly every time.I love that I can customize where it is positioned by monitor as well. I have it on the top right for my main monitor, but it works best for my windowing to be top/center on my secondary monitor. Honestly love this app so much that after using it daily for months I came to the app store specifically to write this review. Thanks SwitchGlass!
Thank goodness for this app

This app does one thing extremely well: it provides a narrow window on the screen showing all the running applications and lets you activate them (and a few other functions). I have been missing this functionality ever since upgrading to Catalina. But now it's here, and so wonderfully implemented. So many small details really make this a pleasant experience.- When you have so many apps running that they won't all fit on the screen at once (yes, that's me), the app adjust the icon sizes to fit everything.- Beautiful translucent design.- Multi-screen support.- Lots and lots of customizations. If you feel the Dock solves this problem for you, that's fine. But if you see the utility of this program, then I feel confident you'll really appreciate how well this utility has been implemented.
• Added the ability to hide the app switcher when the Dock is on the same display.
• Fixed a bug that could cause the Appearance window to reappear after it was closed.
