The Gray Square

Minimalist color-swap puzzle

One rule: landing trades your color for the tile's. 343 solver-checked boards across seven shapes, a real par on every one. No ads, no timers, no lives. The Gray Square is a minimalist color-swap puzzle on a 7×7 board, and it runs on one rule: swipe, swap, match the goal. No ads. No timers. No lives. No account. Play offline, any time. You are the gray square. Swipe and it slides one cell. Wherever it lands, it trades the color it carries for the color already there. That is the whole game: every move that fixes one cell disturbs another, so a board gets solved in your head before your thumb moves. Only a few cells on each board are marked. Match those to the goal and the level is done. The rest of the grid is where you park a color you will need in four moves' time. A solution is a delivery route, and the color you need in the middle is usually sitting in a corner. PAR, GOLD AND KEYS Every board ships with a par: the fewest moves it can be solved in, found by a solver before you ever see it. A live move meter tracks you against it. Clear a board and you earn a key; clear it at par and you earn two, plus a gold tile on the level list. The save keeps your best run, not your last, so coming back months later to finally hit par still pays out. Keys open a locked board when the board to its left or above is already open. The first board of each pattern only needs a key. You start with three. Packs of one or seven are in the shop if you run dry, and a bought key is the same key as an earned one. 343 BOARDS, SEVEN SHAPES Horizontal, Vertical, Cross, Diagonal, L, Square, Triangle. Each shape is its own run of 49 boards in sets of seven. Bigger is not harder: a three-cell line with its colors in opposite corners can outlast a thirteen-cell cross. MADE FOR COLORBLIND PLAYERS Colorblind symbols put a distinct shape on every color, on the tiles, on your square and in the goal map. Goal outlines ring the cells still to fill and tick the ones already right. Both are off until you turn them on, from How to Play or Settings, and both take effect mid-level. If you like logic puzzles and brain teasers that reward planning over speed, this is a quiet, relaxing one. Progress is saved on the device and restored through iCloud on iPhone and iPad.
