Mac

Make everyday typing wonderfully clacky. Give your Mac the sounds of classic typewriters, vintage computers and mechanical keyboards. Choose a machine, then enjoy its clicks, clacks and carriage-return bells as you write emails, take notes or work in other apps. It’s also a museum you can play. Explore 131 machines through photographs and stories, from early typewriters to the keyboards that shaped home computing. Discover how writing became typing — and why these machines still inspire such affection. • 67 playable sound sets, made from real recordings. • Three sounds included free: Olivetti Lettera 22, Triumph Matura and IBM Model F. • Unlock the other 64 with one purchase. No subscription. • Find favourites, explore the collection and try machines in the built-in typing pad. • Adjust volume, stereo width and audio output to suit your setup. • In English, German and Japanese, in the new Hyperbeam look or the original Gallery. Recordings and photographs are credited throughout. Sound sets are clearly labelled when they use a related machine’s recording. YOUR TYPING STAYS ON YOUR MAC Input Monitoring permission lets sounds follow your typing into other apps. Key codes are processed locally, and mouse and trackpad button presses only while the optional click sounds are on (they are off by default). The global monitor does not extract typed text or log or transmit your input. Without permission, keyboard sounds still work inside Typing Museum.

A new look, and the museum now speaks German and Japanese. • Hyperbeam, a clean new look, is now the default. The original look, now called Gallery, is still in View > Theme. • Typing Museum is now in English, German and Japanese, including all 131 machine stories and 48 innovation pieces. Choose a language in Typing Museum > Language; it changes at once. • Switch between light and dark in View > Appearance. • New app and menu bar icons, modelled on a classic typewriter key. • Collection cards now show each machine's full description at every window size. • The menu bar menu and Typing Museum > Settings now share the same settings. • New Show Menu Bar Icon setting. Hide the icon and Typing Museum stays in the Dock instead. • Mouse clicks are now received only while Mouse Click Sounds is on. • Sounds play with low latency automatically, so the Latency menu is gone. • A declined or expired Ask to Buy request no longer blocks buying: Restore Purchase clears the leftover "Awaiting approval" note. • Uses far less memory when the collection window opens, and less CPU while idle.
