Your VELA now pairs only with phones you choose. The first time you connect after updating its firmware, hold UP and DOWN on the VELA for 3 seconds and type the code it shows. If your VELA gets its data through your phone rather than WiFi, it will wait for this step.

Lighter and quicker. VELA now uses noticeably less memory, starts faster, and the download is smaller. Nothing has moved — everything is where you left it.

Everything since 1.5.10, in one update. • Tides — the weather mode draws the day's tide curve, marks where you are in it and labels the next high or low. Hong Kong Observatory predictions, 14 stations. • Low-battery and offline cues, with an optional one-time chime. • Reminders can be paused, snoozed and deleted. • Wi-Fi setup no longer comes up empty while the display is busy. • The calendar can show an artist edition. Tides need VELA firmware 1.5.60 or later.

Events with a phone alarm ring on VELA while the calendar page is showing. The day's 宜/忌 from the Chinese almanac can be shown or hidden. • Reminders — a weekly schedule for medication or injections. VELA sounds an alarm, shows what is due, and you press a button on the device to tick it off. Enter a course the way a prescription is written — so many doses a day, so many hours apart — and the app works out the times. • Drink Water — a nudge at the interval you choose during the hours you choose, with a running count against your own target. Four alarm sounds to pick from. The calendar re-syncs whenever you return to the app, and its settings have a Sync now button. Also: the mode grid no longer pushes newer modes off the edge of the screen, and every setup screen keeps its Save button clear of the home indicator.

More reliable connection: simultaneous reads could corrupt the settings coming back from your VELA. First-time setup no longer says the device is missing before it has finished looking for it. VELA is now on Android too.
