An important fix for everyone on iOS 15 and iOS 16: the app could crash the moment it opened. That is fixed, and we're sorry for the trouble. Also fixed: chat messages that arrived while a conversation was closed could vanish from the conversation after the app was reopened, even though the chat list still showed them. They now stay, and any that went missing come back on the next open. Thank you for the reports that led us to both.

Fixes for location sharing and a lighter app. • If your location stopped updating after a recent update, or the app said it was coming from an old phone, this fixes it. Your phone shares again on its own - no reinstall needed. • The app no longer opens a connection to our servers every time it wakes in the background. Less battery and data use. • Shake to report now asks first, so an accidental shake never opens a report. You can turn it off right there. • Trip details no longer draw speeding stretches over the route; they live in the Speeding screen. • Walks and drives are told apart more reliably in your history.

Location sharing that isn't set up right now tells you exactly what to fix — a short walkthrough shows which Settings switch to flip, and you can turn on Always in one tap. If a family member's phone has stopped sharing, tap Ask to fix and they get a nudge that opens straight to the fix. Live tracking shows a clear banner at the top when a member's location is broken or their phone is in Low Power Mode, instead of a pop-up every time you open it. Trip distances in the timeline now follow the actual route driven, so they match your car and your maps app. Restoring a purchase is more reliable, and battery alerts always show the family member's name. Photos sent in chat now open sharp every time, you can share where you are or a saved place from the paperclip, and conversation previews always show the latest message. Smoother and more battery-friendly location updates, plus smaller fixes throughout.

A big update for families: • Chat, rebuilt — send photos, see who replied last, and chat with family on Android too. • Share your live location with anyone by link — no app needed — for 15, 30 or 60 minutes. • Nest Drive — a weekly driving score with hard brakes, speeding and a shareable score card. • Smarter speed alerts — an alert when someone starts speeding, an update if it continues, and a summary of where and for how long (Premium). • Expect them by… — one tap on the Live Tracking ETA and you'll hear if they're late. • Use your iPad with the same account — it watches while your phone shares. • Joining a Nest no longer needs an account, and a recovery code brings your profile to a new phone. • Report a problem by shaking your phone on any screen. • The new Family tab puts invites, places, premium and settings in one place. • Smarter history: cleaner trips and stays, walking and driving told apart, shorter addresses, one card per day. • Many reliability fixes — a new Nest shows everyone on the map right away, and location keeps updating even when a phone's clock is wrong.
