When using human power craft on the Thames Tideway* monitoring the flags system provided by the Port Of London Authority (PLA) is vital for safety.
These flags (https://pla.co.uk/ebb-tide-flag-warning) act as a rating system of the hazards caused by the water flow on the river.
This app plots a graph of the calculation used by the PLA - the lowest water level in the last 12 hours) over a period of weeks. It presents them in the context of the bands used for the flags by the PLA -
Red - 2.6m or above - Very Strong Fluvial Flows
Yellow - 1.7 to 2.59m - Strong Fluvial Flows
Green - 1.69 to 0 - Average Fluvial Flows
Black - 0 and below - Low Fluvial Flows
This makes trends in the water levels evident, and gives indications of the probably flag levels in the futures
*The Tideway is the part of the River Thames in England which is subject to tides. This stretch of water is downstream from Teddington Lock)
