THE BACK TO BASICS STORY
Hey! I’m Lyndi Cohen – Australian dietician and nutritionist.

I really used to struggle with food and my weight. I was either 'trying to be good' or eating peanut butter straight from the jar! I'd promise to do better but I was all-or-nothing.

Eventually, I decided to ditch diets for a totally new approach to food. I lost 20kg but that turned out to be just an added bonus because now my life isn't controlled by food.

Now, I help others get healthy and this in turn became Back to Basics – an app developed together with experts across women’s health, fitness, pregnancy and mindfulness, sharing what worked for me backed by science and industry research.

Loving this app!

Guys, I am loving this app! I’ve always loved and respected Lyndi’s anti-diet approach to healthy eating and living a balanced, healthy life. Her recipes on Back to Basics are great weekday options - no fuss, simple recipes with VERY reasonable ingredients lists (think the opposite of those intimidating mile long Ottolenghi ingredients lists - iykyk). Lyndi has truly got your back here! All the ingredients she uses are widely accessible and easy to find in a supermarket.

And you know how they say energy is infectious? Well, this is so true in regards to the amazing group of movement instructors Lyndi has picked for her app. They exude joy and it’s hard to not get swept up in it whilst you’re moving alongside (and who wouldn’t want that)!

I’d recommend this app to anyone starting out on their fitness or health journey, or recovering from unwanted eating habbits. It’s a great way to heal your relationship with food, and Lyndi’s made it even more easy and convenient for you with an organised app and satisfying user interface. And even if you’re not starting out, you might just be sick of all the BS diet advice that’s circulating. Hop on here, it’s a safe haven that’s refreshing to come back to when you’re exhausted at the sight of another low carb noodle alternative.

Great recipes, suggestions for Hunger Check-In

I love the recipes on this app, love the easy search function where you can search ingredients. There are heaps of different filters like “budget friendly”, “meal-prep”, “lunchbox friendly” which also make searching for recipes super handy.

I downloaded the app because I am doing Lyndi’s Keep it Real program, so I really like that it has a built in huger check-in. I do have a couple suggestions about this feature though - the terms used to rate hunger aren’t the same as the KIR hunger scale. That’s only a small thing since it is a number scale after all, but I feel like consistency across both would be fab. I’d also like to be able to write a note along with the hunger check-in so I can write my thoughts down around food as that is often recommended in the KIR program. Not sure how that would work with the current setup of only showing statistics, but I also feel like it would be good to be able to look back at a week/month at a time for example so you can see your progress. I also would love to be able to specify the time. That’s not a big one, but I’m a bit ocd and kinda want to track times for my hunger to see if there are trends.

Aside from these small suggestions I absolutely love the app and the variety of simple yet delicious recipes! I haven’t used the workouts personally but that’s not what I was really looking for in the app, hunger check in and recipes mostly was what I was after.

What I’ve needed all along!

What a relief not to have yet another plan that makes you count calories and restrict certain food groups. This app provides a suite full of super quick, healthy, satisfying and seriously delicious recipes (and this is coming from someone who loves to cook and takes their food very seriously) - with carbs and fruit included! The support around combating emotional eating and checking your hunger scale is truly invaluable and life changing. I just couldn’t bear the thought of counting calories or restricting carbs anymore. Learning about my emotional eating habits and listening to my body is what I’ve been needing all along. Everything about this program is so refreshing. Love your work guys! From the bottom of my heart - thank you so much. ❤️
