Use DS video to stream your video collection on your DiskStation from your iOS mobile device. Browsing is made easy as your videos are sorted in different libraries, and each movies has its information retrieved online automatically. And if you have connected HDHomeRun devices with DVB-T standard to the same local area network as your Synology NAS, you will also be able to record TV programs, as well as view the TV program to manage the recording schedule even when on the move.

Needs better parental controls
I use this all the time on my Apple TV. Or rather my 7 year old daughter does. All my movies are stored on the NAS and it is fabulous for streaming over the home network.
You can separate our kids and adult accounts on it, to limit the movies you can watch based on movie classification. But changing accounts on the Apple TV is painful. Because my daughter would love to watch movie after movie all day, I put a PIN on all content. But the PIN must be entered using the Apple TV remote and the numbers are visible in screen and not greyed out. You literally need to either send your kids out of the room or stand in front of the TV to obscure the PIN.
So great for home movies and the like, but could use improvement for greater parental control.
Controlling through an app on your phone - maybe with a randomised PIN or 2 factor authentication - would be ideal. Right now I am looking for alternative solutions.
Good Companion App to DS415play
****Edit 2018: you can read my original review, since then little has been done and many new file formats are “unsupported”. I would be happy do pay for an app with all the codecs but now I use this app a lot less now days.****
I used this app to replace XBMC on an old Apple TV. While the app is not perfect is does do the job and I now use it daily to Airplay from my NAS to a new Apple TV. A few strange UI issues still but over all the combination of this app and my new NAS has made a great media system. Keep enhancing this app as it sets Synology apart for home NAS!
Broken with TVOS 14.2
Works fine for the most part, but we desperately need a way to turn off subtitles by default. So sick of having to turn them off for each new episode that starts.
Additionally, the Apple TV version is broken since TVOS 14.2. You can no longer pause / rewind / fast forward, and if you go back to the Home Screen you then have to restart the NAS or it says something else is already streaming when you try and play something.
